Career Development Interns 2008 - 2010

The Career Development Center serves students and alumni with their career learning. We work with undecided students on choosing majors, and later assist students develop required skills as they seek internships, employment or graduate education.

This needs to be kept CENTRAL to all marketing and properly assigned to each intern according to their duties

Career Development Interns 2008 - 2010

Assigning different interns to different marketing projects results in mixed branding of the CDC See Following

Career Development Interns 2008 - 2010

Facebook posting issues Clear instructions on who posts and when 3-6 posts within 15 minutes is a LOT for our followers Lost a few Facebook fans in a steady decline in mid April but are starting to gain more again

Career Development Interns 2008 - 2010

Marketing Projects Tasks have been intertwined between the 2 interns Lack of communication: who does what? Brings into question who is in charge of Marketing?

Career Development Interns 2008 - 2010

Overlapping tasks

Only one intern can do their work off of a non-CDC computer (Diane) No idea what each intern is doing if you dont work during their shift
Easier to collaborate with 1 intern as opposed to 3

Career Development Interns 2008 - 2010

Proper marketing research principles need to be applied to know how students are finding out about the CDC
Cannot just assume we know what students want Need to randomize our research The effort is worth our time!

Dont be afraid to be the first to try something

Listen to the students- they are the audience

Allow the interns time to collaborate with one another

Make the CDC an experience not just a chore

Career Development Interns 2008 - 2010

Dont just assume you know what students want ask them!
Not just the interns or friends of the CDC Conduct real focus groups and surveys Be prepared to find out interesting information about our services Making the effort will pay off

Career Development Interns 2008 - 2010

We can never truly give our audience (the students) what they want if we dont know what they want and arent willing to listen. TIMES ARE A CHANGING

Career Development Interns 2008 - 2010

Interns should collaborate more often

Brainstorming sessions- weekly check-ins Successful collaborations in the past: PM Scene Accepted, Neglected Rejected Builds on group work skills

Career Development Interns 2008 - 2010

Create the CDCs brand and make it an experiencesome people have a vague idea we are here
Make everything consistent Start broad and then move narrower what are the actual goals of the marketing/social media internships? What are the goals of the resource intern? Quantify goals Create methods to reach them Remove the confusion of what we should be doing

Career Development Interns 2008 - 2010

Dont be afraid to try something NEW Give a new face to the career center If the resources exist try it
Stand behind the work of your interns
ASK highly supported Social media very skeptical Hard to work in a situation where you do not feel your work is supported. It might be appreciated but not supported.
