Online marketing activity caninclude blogging, use of socialmedia websites Facebook andTwitter, videos and podcasts to
raise the prole of a business.
Our South West Business Pulsesurvey, carried out in January2009, polled key decision makersat
170
businesses in Cornwall,
Devon and Somerset.
We discovered that only seven percent of companies in the region aremaking use of social networking
websites such as Facebook. While
16 per cent of business ownersread blogs on the internet only
seven per cent publish their own.
This is despite the fact that nearlytwo thirds (
63%
) of those surveyedsaying that their website is very
important or vital to their business.
Interestingly, the survey also revealedthat 29 per cent of South Westbusinesses plan to increase Internet-based marketing activities as a lowcost alternative to more traditional
methods.
Robert Rush, managing director ofPFA Research, says: “The results ofthe Business Pulse reveal that socialmedia is still an emerging medium for
companies in the region.
“However there are lots ofopportunities for businesses to tapinto innovative ways of marketingtheir products or services which are
cheap or even free.”
