The purpose of this research is to identify principles of theory relating to the art and practice of learning organizations. A critical analysis of complex organizations and the relationship of general systems theory to education provides information on the components of organizations and explain how the organizational model fits the field of education. In addition, the research describes an analysis of differences between open and closed systes and suggestions regarding which systems best desribes the education system.

BreadthThe purpose of this KAM is to identify principles of theory relating to the art and practice of learning organizations. A critical analysis, according to Ludwig von Bertalanffy, Amitai Etzioni,and Peter Senge, of complex organizations and the relationship of general systems theory toeducation provides information on the components of organizations and explains how theorganizational model fits the field of education. In addition, the breadth contains a description of general systems theory and its application to education, including an analysis of differences between open and closed systems and suggestions regarding which system best describes theeducation system.
 
ABSTRACT
EDUC 8328: CURRENT RESEARCH IN ORGANIZATIONAL & SOCIAL SYSTEMS K-12 ED.
DepthThe Depth section reviews current literature concerning the role of systems thinking, generalsystems theory, and open and closed systems. An analysis of the concept of systems thinking asit relates to education, along with the general systems theory, is applied to guide school leadersthrough the process of organizational change. In probing the recent literature, the intendedoutcome is to find strategies to develop a better learning environment for students from low-income areas and determine how school leaders can better address social issues as an obstacle inthe process of organizational change.
