Badger Meter Plate Strainers

Badger Strainers are designed to effectively protect the measuring elements in the meters. They also assist in minimizing turbine rotor bearing loading and resultant wear to maintain accurate meter registration and extend the service life of the meter.

Reason: Changes incorporated amount of time required to assemble and complexity of the part being built.

Design Changes

Reason: new shape will not affect tolerances while being heat treated..

Fabrication Plan
There are 2 sets of welding fixtures 1st will be made by Ames at their production facility. 2nd set which is used to weld the square housing together will be built at Sac state. Material for the Main welding fixture is handle by Ames production facility, Labor was also determined for the cost of producing parts for the main welding fixture. $10,000 2nd set was built by jeff and material used was 4140 alloy steel-annealed 33x6x1/4 $110 Steel Square tubing 1,1/2 Free Washer were made from scraped 4140 rods 2 Free 1 Bolt Free

Testing Plan

3 test will be done on the welding fixture 1st test will have strain gauges applied measuring as well a deflection test to determine if hand calculations meet test results Timed test for assembly which consist time taken to assemble strainer components on welding fixture. Results will be compared with previous welding fixture. Inputs will be taken from assemblers for improvements. 3rd test will consist of checking for misalignments when welding fixture components are assembled, and then checking for misalignments of strainer components assembled on welding fixture. Process we be checked after a mock rotation test too determine if misalignment occurs while in rotation.

Status

2ND set of welding fixture was completed on 9/24/08, testing done on 2nd welding fixture was an timed assembly test. Time amount saved___, input from assembler was easier to put parts together and was quick. Misalignment haven't occurred so far. Main welding fixture hasnt been completed testing hasnt started on welding fixture
