 Abstract
Cloud computing is a new delivery method and choice available today or Enterprisecomputing that in the uture will be revolutionary or business. It is a massivelyscalable, osite inrastructure accessible on demand across the internet on a pay-per-use basis – owned by someone else. Over the past ew years business unctionshave increasingly demanded internet-based services. As a result o a challengingeconomic environment, Capgemini has seen clients reassess options o support ornon-dierentiating computing resource layers o the inrastructure when evaluatingIT budgets. The timing is right or accelerated adoption o cloud computing. The advantages o cloud computing are many. Both server compute and storage ca-pacity can be accessed in near real-time, when needed, without waiting or resourcesto be assembled in an on-premise data center. Speed to value is high and the risksinherent in capacity planning can be mitigated. Also, the use o cloud computing ishighly exible and can quickly respond to changes in load. Will all applications in the uture be run in the cloud? Not likely. But Capgeminihas helped several clients take advantage o cloud computing, most notably withOracle Applications, Microsot SharePoint and Application Development Testing ser-vices. This paper also presents several other well-known examples o cloud usage.Cloud computing is real and it is here to stay. The uture o cloud computing islikely to include not one standardized cloud but several cloud types, some built orspecialized non-commoditized applications. In the uture, some cloud types may beused in a private or semi-private manner.Cloud computing is inherently green. Economics plays a part because as you payor only what you need you use this resource only when needed. Being a sharedservice, capacity utilization is much higher than with enterprise computing and youdo not have to set up and power hardware not being used.It is easy to envision a uture where businesses will combine and reuse businesslogic residing in ar-ung locations with a new type o mashup, sometimes calleda “business mashup.Business mashups will make it easier to do business moresynergistically and ar more collaboratively when desired. They will also create anew marketplace. Although rom a technical perspective this is an evolution, rom abusiness perspective it will be a revolution.
