FINDING A SITE
Child Care Facilities:
Locating suitable space can be a challenge when starting a new earlychildhood program or relocating an established program. Here are somesuggestions on how to find suitable, affordable and available sites.
Walk the neighborhood
You will need to do this several times, so be systematicfrom the beginning. Get a map. Note the locations of residential and commercial sections, schools, churchesor synagogues, libraries and where the bus and train routesrun. (Ideally, a child care center will be located near the transportationparents take going to work.)Use one page for each street and note down the address of any building thatinterested you. The school or religious institution is probably identified outside, often with a phone number. If you find a possible site but cannot identify the owner of the property, you cancheck at the City Register, Department of Finance Services and Initiatives, forthat borough. Staten Island, however, is independent of the City Registry.
