Grace and SalvationBY SAM JOES"For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared toall men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, weshould live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of thegreat God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; who gave himself for us,that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works." (Titus ii. 11-14.)I WAT to say to Christian people, God is answer-ing your prayers. I have heard many things to-day that encourage me. These are index-fingerspointing to answered prayers. Thank God, he is aprayer-hearing and a prayer-answering God! Manythings I have heard to-day give evidence of genuineHoly Ghost work in this city. I have no confidencein the work of any man — I have no confidence in thepermanency of the work of any man; but I believethere is truth in God, and virtue in the blood of Christ, and power in the Holy Ghost. If these divine agen-cies will work with us, there will be a work done inthis city that will outlive the stars. To God be allthe glory, because all the power, all the grace, and allthe dominion are his. Let the cross come out in allits boldness to redeem men. It is to the cross I in-vite you. It is in the shadow of the cross that weexpect hope and life and salvation.(13>H Sermons and Sayings.
