"For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to
all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we
should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the
great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; who gave himself for us,
that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself
a peculiar people, zealous of good works." (Titus ii. 11-14.)

Grace and SalvationBY SAM JOES"For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared toall men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, weshould live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of thegreat God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; who gave himself for us,that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works." (Titus ii. 11-14.)I WAT to say to Christian people, God is answer-ing your prayers. I have heard many things to-day that encourage me. These are index-fingerspointing to answered prayers. Thank God, he is aprayer-hearing and a prayer-answering God! Manythings I have heard to-day give evidence of genuineHoly Ghost work in this city. I have no confidencein the work of any man — I have no confidence in thepermanency of the work of any man; but I believethere is truth in God, and virtue in the blood of Christ,and power in the Holy Ghost. If these divine agen-cies will work with us, there will be a work done inthis city that will outlive the stars. To God be allthe glory, because all the power, all the grace, and allthe dominion are his. Let the cross come out in allits boldness to redeem men. It is to the cross I in-vite you. It is in the shadow of the cross that weexpect hope and life and salvation.(13>H Sermons and Sayings.

We invite your prayerful attention to the four versesbeginning with the eleventh verse of the second chapterof Paul to Titus. Of course we have not the time todiscuss all of the four verses, but we will read anddiscuss them as far as we may. " For the grace of Godthat bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men."This term " grace" is peculiarly a gospel term — a ewTestament term. It covers all the blessings of thepast, all the enjoyments of the present, all the hopesof the future. We are not only redeemed by grace,but we are born by grace, and we live by grace, andwe are saved by grace. We know not how to estimatethe value of this grace of God. We generally esti-mate the value of an object by what it will bring inmarket, or by what we paid for it. We are not re-deemed by corruptible things, such as silver and gold,but by the precious blood of the Son of God. Intothe blood of the Son of God pleading and bleeding inthe garden of Gethsemane the recording angel dippedhis pen and wrote: "Peace on earth, good-will towardmen." It is through the blood of the everlasting cov-enant that this grace flows to the earth. The HolyGhost awaited in heaven the coming of the Victim of this sacrifice. When the Son's feet touched the streetsof gold, the Holy Ghost flew right through the win-dow and came to earth to sprinkle the world with hisblood that was to cleanse the nations.Mr. Ingersoll says the reason he does not like thisreligion is because it is a bloody religion. I like iibecause it is a bloody religion; for without the sheading of blood there is no remission of sins. gospel influences, that brings salvation in all its full-ness unto all men. Thank God for the expression"unto all men!" Thank God, I can lay my eyes onhis word and my hand on my heart and say, I believethat Jesus Christ died for me; not only for me, butor my wife, for each one of my children, and for youand your wives and your children! He has not onlyprovided salvation for all mankind, but for each in-dividual; and if you should fail to get to heaven, therewill be a crown in glory that no head will ever wear — a palm of victory in heaven no hand will ever wave;if you fail to make the port of glory, there will be aharp in heaven untouched by angel hands.Christ is the propitiation for our sins, and not forours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.We look for the redemption of the world throughJesus Christ. The world can never be redeemed bya gospel that excludes a single human being. If yousearch this universe and find one human being notredeemed, I believe Jesus Christ would come to earthagain, and would be nailed to the cross, and suffer anddie for that one immortal soul. I am very glad thepulpits of the earth are coming together on this point.Thank God, I have seen some advancement in my day,and I hope yet to see the day when every pulpit will jump squarely upon the "whosoever will!" othingless than this can express the great gushing heart of God to the race. We are all created on a commonplatform; we are all redeemed on a common plat-form. When God gave one a chance he threw thegates open to all. Thanks be unto God for a gospelthat saves me, and is sufficient in its breadth anddepth for a world of sinners! This grace that bring-16 Sermons and Sayings.
