NORTHERN DENMARK518 A.D.THE AGE OF HEROES

FADE IN: A CAVE11 A SHADOWY FIGURE, its hands tightly clutching the sides ofits head, WHIMPERS with tortured pain. This creature, whilehumanoid, does not seem entirely human. Its hands quiver andshake as it grasps at its own skullcap, covering itsears...perhaps trying to hold out noise.But there is no noise, save for the creatures own WHIMPERING.SLOWLY ZOOM IN onto the back of the silhouetted creaturesbald head. Then, ever so distant and increasing in pitch, do we hear what the creature hears...CUT TO:INT. HEROT - MEAD HALL - NIGHT22 A ROARING fire of dancing golden-orange flames blazes away ina massive fire pit. Above it, the head of a pig roastshappily away, suspended over the flames by a long sword whichruns through its head like an enormous spit.PULL BACK TO REVEAL: Herot. The greatest mead hall in theland. Everything is golden and burnished. The CROWD isNOISY AND CHEERING and happy. We see golden mead beingfilled from a large mead tub into jugs and then poured intogoblets. One warrior sticks out his helmet, mead is pouredinto it and soon he is drinking from it. A brace of goldenroasted pig is brought out on wooden serving platters.PULL BACK FURTHER TO REVEAL: A CROWD OF ROWDY THANES dances wildly around a large portable throne, which is being carriedby FOUR THANES. It wobbles and bobs its way through theCHANTING crowd as if it were a boat toppling its way throughthe high seas. Inside of the throne sits Hrothgar, as fat aking as you're ever likely to see. His rotund body is drapedin nothing more than a haphazardly wrapped bed linen, as ifhe just came from fucking. It can barely ward the mead thatspills from his large goblet.NOISE assaults our senses.The throne is dropped onto a dais with a LOUD THUD, nearlycrushing his queen, Wealthow, a pale beauty with iridescentskin and a face like the moon. She is KNOCKED by the largeand heavy throne, which has come to rest on her dress. Shepulls at it, ripping the cloth.(CONTINUED)
