Last week the government released the official photograph of AirForce One flying over “Lady Liberty”. The taking of the photographcaused quite a panic among some New Yorkers as the low flyingaircraft understandably brought back the horrific memories of 9-11.The previous official photograph of Air Force One, I believe, was thatof it flying over Mt. Rushmore. It is understandable why those re-sponsible would like a photograph of Air Force One flying over Amer-ica’s most recognizable statue. However, to avoid all the panic, Iwould have suggested that they direct their photo-op toward anothergracious Lady namely Our Lady of the Rockies. You never heard ofher, well you do now. Yes there she stands this gracious Lady armswide open beckoning the sons and daughters of America to come toher and meet her Son the Savior of our world. Yes, there she standson a ridge atop of the continental divide 8,510 feet above sea leveloverlooking Butte, Montana. She is the United States largest Madonna soaring some ninety feetinto the air. She is dedicated to our Blessed Mother and was erectedto honor women everywhere especially mothers. The idea was the brainchild of a mineworker by the name of BobO’Bill, but the work itself was the work of many people of all denomi-nations and people, both national and international, pooled their tal-ents and resources to make it happen. Today she stands as a re-minder to people of what can be accomplished when people put theirdifferences aside and work together in generosity and love, for thebetterment of one and all. But all this did not happen overnight, therewere the difficult times of disagreements and misunderstandings.Sacrifice and pain was part and parcel of the journey but today shestands reminding us of what can happen when the goal of one be-comes the goal of many.During this month of May, Our Lady of the Rockies while she may likea photo-op with Air Force One, however, she would much prefer thesons and daughters of this great country to return to the ways of herSon with minds and hearts renewed; seeking first the Kingdom ofGod rather than the trappings of this world.Today there is much talk about the world’s economy and variousbankruptcies in the midst of all this chatter let us make sure that weare not and do not become spiritually bankrupt.
Our Lady of the Rockies

symbol of Universal Motherhood, grant that we may always remember those blessings with which we in America are so abundantly favored. Make us all one family, surround us with your mantle of protection and may our hearts and lives be like your arms opened wide and full of love bearing true witness of Jesus your Son our Savior to all we meet. Amen Rev. Hugh Marren
