Learn at Home: Grade 5 New York City Department of Education
Dear Fifth Grade Scholars,
We are facing difficult and unusual times right now with some schools closing for aweek. We recognize that a break in school may be a challenge for you and yourfamily. Even though your school is closed, you can use this time to continue learning.
To help stay on track for success:
1.
Read from a book, magazine or newspaper of your choice each day
2.
Learn and use new vocabulary words each day
3.
Write each day. For example:
a.
Write a letter to President Obama about a topic that interests you
b.
Start a journal and write about your day, your dreams, your friends, yourfamily and your plans
c.
Write a letter or email to your teacher about the subjects and the activitiesyou enjoy in school
d.
Write a letter or email to a relative or a friend
e.
Write a short story, poem, or lyrics to a song
4.
Participate in a fitness activity and/or a creative activity to keep your body andyour mind strong
5.
Review your notes and books from school
6.
Share what you learn each day with your parent or caregiver
