In 1998 while I wasworking in Cartonajes Hernandez in the Dominican Republic as their structural manager I starteddating my now husband Chris Heusch. He was already living in the US in Maryland, that summer he decided to move to Utah. He had started his own company and could live anywhere in thestates. After visiting him several times I was offer a working visa by an Architectural Firm in ParkCity, so in the summer of 2000 I moved to Holladay, Utah. That same year in November we gotmarried. After two years we decided to have family and in December 2002 we welcome our firstbaby Matthew, that same year we found this great lot with the most amazing view in Heber andbuild our dream home. We move to Heber in January 2005 and later that year welcome our secondbaby Maggie. I stopped working in 2005 and that was a great decision, my daughter had somehealth problems that needed my immediate attention. Looking around the valley for schools for myson and also trying to educate myself about the American school system (very different that what Iexperience in the D.R.) I came to Soldier Hollow Charter School and offer to volunteer. What asurprise it was to be asked to teach Spanish for the 8
th
graders and I accepted the challenge. Ihave to admit I am not a teacher but Spanish is my first language and I guess that helps. After twoyears I have stop teaching Spanish for the 8
th
graders due to schedule conflicts with training backin my field. I do volunteer and help first grade.
I am still learning about the school system and abouteducation in general. I would like to help the school be the best.
There are other things I should say; one is that I will become a U.S. citizen this year (my citizenshiptest is at the end of May and the swearing in ceremony is in June). And second is that I startedtraining to go back to work in my field. I do miss designing and I would like to get my license as an Architect in Utah.
