After the Persian threat subsided, the Greek city-stateshad conflicts among themselvesThe Athenians formed an alliance called the DelianLeague
 –Athens supplied most of the military force and the other city-states provided financial support –In the absence of the Persian threat, eventually the other city-states came to resent financing Athens’ bureaucracy andconstruction projects
The resulting tensions led to the Peloponnesian War (431-404) in which the city-states divided up into twosides led by Athens and SpartaThe Spartans formed an alliance of their own, called thePeloponnesian League
