TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENTDear Parent/Guardian,Thank you for your trust in St. Vrain Valley Schools and allowing us the opportunity to educate your students. The positive things that we are able to do for your students are no accident. Likewise, it is the same with regardto student safety both on school grounds and while in transit on District school buses. This of course, is beingaccomplished through forward thinking and design. In January of this year, in an effort to further enhance student safety, the Board of Education approved the purchase of a GPS hardware/software package from Zonar Systems to be installed and utilized on all Districtschool buses. This same technology is currently utilized by many districts in Colorado with several up anddown the Front Range including: Adams 12 Five Star Schools, Denver Public Schools and Douglas CountyPublic Schools. Further, this technology was piloted at two of the schools in the Mead attendance area duringthe last month of this past school year. The pilot provided Transportation and District staff up-to-the-minuteinformation regarding the whereabouts of students while riding on District school buses.Prior to the start of the 2013-14 school year, all eligible transported students will be issued an individual bus pass card through their school.
HOW THE BUS PASS WORKS
As the student enters or leaves the bus, he/she will pass his/her assigned bus pass card in front of a reader allowing the current time, date, and geographic location to be recorded into a secure database. Theinformation is then readily available through a secure means in case of an emergency or lost studentsituation.
LOST, STOLEN OR DAMAGED CARDS
All eligible riders will receive an initial bus pass card, a clear rubber sleeve and a lanyard at no cost.
Reissue of nonworking cards due to normal wear and tear will be free of charge as long as the non-working bus pass card is surrendered to St. Vrain Valley Schools Transportation.
Lost or stolen bus pass cards along with a new rubber sleeve will be reissued at a cost of $5.00.Please note Bus Drivers CANNOT accept any form of payment at any time. Those receiving bus passes will be provided more detailed information regarding replacement of lost, stolen or damaged cards upon receipt of their initial card.
