INTRODUCTION1.1

OBJECTIVEResearch is one of the important methods of studying. In the contemporary knowledge world,we are becoming more rational and perhaps this is one of the main reasons today, research is becoming very significant not only in all the faculties of education but also in business, industry, politics and social sciences. University of Mumbai has given me an opportunity touse my imagination, analytical approach and do some research in various fields of management studies. As i am a student of management studies, I would like to utilize thisopportunity. Our college has decided this year that the research will be done in various non-statutory bodies working in India for various purposes such as administration, law and order, financial matters, social objectives, regulations, proper allocation of funds and their utilization, various policies of the government and so on. However one of the main objectivesof these bodies is welfare of societies and citizens of India. With this purpose I have selected
the topic on ‘PRESS

TRUST OF INDIA’. It gives me great pleasure to look into the subject
matter and its field. This topic allows me to use both methods of research -a)

Classical/traditional-related to collecting information, classifying and processing properly. b)

Scientific method-which will allow me to collect primary as well as secondary data and perhaps their combination, will give proper idea of the organisation.I have used both the methods for my research project. The following sources have givenme a lot of input in the form of reliable information such as-While for primary data, I have used interview technique, questionnaire, discussion, casestudy. Questionnaire has been put in the appendix. I have collected the data for it fromvarious sectors/levels. Though time constraint did not allow me to take a fairly largesample to avoid errors and to get reliable information. I have restricted myself to _____________ samples which has helped me to prepare diagrams, to interpret, to getfindings and accordingly to recommend.

I have considered various topics for my research project such as-

History of the body

Conceptual framework

Composition of organisation

Functions

Funding

Work environment

Appointment and jurisdiction

Methods of research

Case study on _________

Processing data, drawing diagram interpretation

Findings

RecommendationsI have tried my level best to collect reliable information and with certain limitations I have tried tocomplete my research on the topic. This has given me a lot of general knowledge about the pressworld. Also came to know how we are aware of it. My findings give a clear picture about it and
sometimes I am surprised about people’s awareness which helped me recommend both the sides as
people as a whole and rational functioning of the organisation.

 STATUTORY BODY
A statutory body is a corporation created by statute. In law, it refers to an organisation withthe authority to make sure that the activities of a business or organisation are permissibleand follow official rules. The term may also refer to an organisation that has been created by a parliament.
A statutory body is an entity that is established under an Act. It normally has controlof certain funds. Its governing body includes at least one member who is appointed, under an Act, by the Governor in Council or a Minister, or whose appointment isapproved by the Governor in Council or a Minister
Some of the laws in the statutory body are that they do not include corporations that areowned by shareholders. The body include Direct Government, Department for Business,Innovation and Skills (BIS), and Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).
 A
statutory corporation
is a corporation created by statute. Their precise nature varies by jurisdiction

thus they might be ordinary companies/corporations owned by a government with or without other shareholders, or they might be a body without shareholders which is controlled by national or sub-national government to the (in some cases minimal) extent provided for in the creating legislation.Bodies described in the English language as "statutory corporations" exist in the following countries inaccordance with the associated descriptions (where provided).Statutory corporation are public enterprises into existence by a Special Act of the Parliament. The Actdefines its powers and functions, rules and regulations governing its employees and its relationshipwith government departments.
