The International Movements Committee (USA)Announcement 1/2009May 9, 2009Respectable comrades – students, monks, people of Burma, friends of Burma,friends those who are in solidarity with oppressed people in Burma and thosewho are fighting for the freedom and democracy in Burma:With miseries and agonies continue unabated and with leaders of democracymovement constantly threatened, Burma seriously needs collective and coordinatedaction from international community.Dire situation calls for dire action. The action must come from the UN SecurityCouncil. To urge the UN Security Council to take urgent, concrete and concerted action forthe freedom of Burma and immediate release of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, we willstage Long March and Hunger Strike campaign that will start on May 27, 2009.We would like to announce that our longmarch and hunger strike movement willstart on May 27, 2009 to urge the UN Security Council to take a concrete action forthe freedom of Burma and Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.Our campaign entails three parts and details are as follow:Part I: Long March The march of 900-mile journey from Golden Peace-Land Pagoda, Fort Wayne,Indiana to the United Nations head quarter, New York City, New York, starting onMay 27 at 9:09 a.m. (anniversary of 1990 election in which the NLD won bylandslide, 82% of the votes.)We will send open letter to the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki Mon on the day ourlong march begins.While marching, we will make the truth about Burma known to the public bydistributing newsletters and pamphlets and collect signatures.
