’ve been away from home this past week from Wednesday toSaturday in Atlanta for a Youth Minister’s Conference. All the YouthMinisters are from churches of Christ. Its a really great opportunityto meet with others and discuss some of the things that are reallytruly unique to our ministry... like the dreaded Lock-In and why youlike them so much.o, really we do get into deeper discussions than this. I’ve beenlearning from Hosea, and Amos. Tomorrow, I’ll learn from Jonah. It’s been a pretty full schedule. It’s pretty much full tilt from 8am to10pm. But I’ve been learning a lot. The theme here has been “Overflow” Letting God overflow intoour church, ministry and our lives. They get the theme from thisverse...
May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for eachother and for everyone else, ust as ours does for you.”
-1 Thes. 3:12

ou know there’s been a lot of discussion how our ministryshould flow from our own spirituality and not just scraping by onwhat we can plan for the next week. I’d like to think that I try andthink about what you guys need to hear, and then combine it withwhat I have been learning in my own personal faith.’ll be completely honest with you. I have been humbled by myexperience here. I haven’t done a good job of making this Christian-ity practical, tactile, and real enough for you guys. I hope that as Icome home (and you can keep me accountable to this) that we willtruly flesh out what it means to be Christ... (Gal 3:27) in our schools, homes, church, and whereever we are. This means that we must live consistent lives. The class on Amos(after Joel and before Obediah) that I had was just about this verything. Read Amos 5:21-24. In it God says that he despises their wor-ship in Isreal! Why? Because they weren’t living the life they shouldhave been living. They were just going through the motions.don’t want us to just go through the motions. I want us to re-ally stretch ourselves and allow God to change and be in our wholelives. How does that sound? I think only then will we truly under-stand and experience the joy and peace God has to offer us. Amen?

oah and the Ark
Week # 1OBJECTIVE:
To discuss the story of Noah and the ark and its applicationfor us today: We must follow God’s pattern.
Feasting on the Word:
Genesis 6:5-22 – 9:17
Family Discussion:
ow did God feel about how wicked the people on earth had become?(vs. 6:6)What did God decide to do about man’s wickedness? (vs. 6:7)ow did God feel about Noah? (vs. 6:8-9)What did God tell Noah to build? (vs. 6:14)What did God tell Noah to put on the ark with him and his family? (6:19-20)id God give Noah specific instructions on how to build the ark? (vs. 6:15-16)id Noah follow God’s specific instructions? (vs. 6:22, 7:5)ow long did it rain? (7:12)ow long did the waters flood the earth? (vs. 7:24)When Noah finally came out of the, ark what did he do? (vs. 8:20)What is the sign of the covenant that God made with Noah that He wouldnever again destroy all living creatures this way? (9:13)
Challenge:
God gave instructions to Noah on how to specifically build the ark. HasGod given us any instructions? (Psalm119:105) Should we follow God’sinstructions specifically, or can we change them a little? (Rev. 22:19) Whatappens if we do not follow God’s will? (Luke 13:3,5) What can we do as afamily to help each other follow the will of God?

was daydreaming the other day... about what life would be like if I were par-alyzed. Not only paralyzed, but unable to speak or show emotion. I was totallyimmobile and unable to communicate in my little imagined world. I wasn’t evenable to hold my son, or speak to Jen about my day. It was a frustrating scenariomy mind played out. I’m very glad I just have a good imagination and that wasn’tthe reality. I know you might be thinking I’m really weird for thinking about suchthings but... Then I realized what Christ must feel like sometimes if we are His body. Heknows that we are fully capable of doing great things in His name, but no matterhow much preaching and encouragement hits our ears, we remain immobile, apathetic and silent.remembered what it was like after my minor surgery, it hurt to move andit frustrated me all the more, because even everyday tasks became difficult fora temporary amount of time. I was relieved when I could finally lift things over20lbs again, and hadn’t realized before what that restricted me from doing.f only some of the church body is moving and functioning... it’s still a churchthat doesn’t live up to its full potential. How is Christ to be brought to the worldif the body of Christ doesn’t wake up and function in the world.know you’ve probably heard the song by Casting Crowns, “If we are theBody” and it’s a good song, but what inspired me this time to write was DeitrichBonhoeffer’s book “
The Cost of Discipleship
” and a chapter called “The VisibleCommunity”. Christ’s body is the church (psst... that’s us! Not the building!), and if we are not a visible light in our own community, than how will Christ be knownin our world.art of our current problem is that we have compartmentalized church (Justimagine putting Christ in a tupperware container, only bringing him out to playon Sundays and Wednesday night if he “behaves” the rest of the week). We al-low God to only occupy a small part of our lives. He’s not welcome at our jobs, schools, or everyday activities. “That’s too much. I don’t want to seem like a fa-natic.”, we might declare to God. But God has given us His very own Son, so thatwe might be hiers of His Kingdom. How much do we show that we are gratefulto him if we only give him our Sundays and Wednesdays?
“For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen. Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer  your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God — this is your spiritual act of worship.”
