Pentecost Offering
The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)has set the goal of starting 1,000 newchurches by the year 2020. We continue to be well ahead of the pace needed to meetthat goal, having started hundreds of congregations. Our New Church Movement is contributing most of the growth of our larger church— and it is also transforming who we are! Many of these churches serve a great variety of ethnic communities—Haitian, Hispanic, Korean, and many more. In so doing, our NewChurch Movement is reaching out to a world that looks much like Southern California. Each year, to honor the work of the Holy Spirit in our new congregations, we receive aspecial, over-and-above Pentecost offering on behalf of the New Church Movement.Envelopes will be available on May 24, and on Pentecost Sunday, May 31. If you haveany questions, please go to
newchurchministry.org.

Y’ALL COME – AND THEY DID!
The Disciples Women’s Board decided this year to try something a little differentfor their family activities. Last Saturday night, our church was filled – yes, filledwith lots of families and friends enjoying each other. The kids were running around outside, playing games, and getting their faces painted! A cakewalk was in progress over in room 4.Inside Sippel Hall, there were some serious scrabble, darts and checker games in progress, and a puzzle being put together by two ladies who didn’t want to stop long enough to eat!Pictures were being taken, complete with hay bales and a rocking chair! Throw in some friedchicken, biscuits, and apple pie and you have the makings for a great evening! As if that wasn’t enough, the entertainment (talent – variety??) was really amazing. There was something for everyone - we had music, dancing, singing, instrumentals, humor, and more! Best of all, there was love, and fellowship, and the coming together of our church family to share in the community of Christ that is our foundation. If you were unable to be with us – you were missed. The DWF would like to thank each andevery one of you who participated with your willing hands and your presence. Individualthank you’s are not really important, because working together and being together was why itwas a great evening!Taking a deep breath, the DWF Board is moving on to our next adventure. New board mem- bers have been chosen by the nominating committee for three positions, and our Installationof Officers for the next year will be at our June 28
th
luncheon. Please plan to be there, andsupport these women who serve our Lord and our church in so many ways. Our May luncheon is just around the corner. Be sure to join us on May 31
st
at 12noon for our annual “Spring Tea”. This is always a fun afternoon, and a relaxingtime of fellowship. Our hostesses will be the New Hope group, and MaureenEstolas will lead worship. Our service project is OWIN, Orphans and Widows in Need, anorganization founded by Dr. Lillian Asomugha, a member of our church. We welcome everywoman of the church to join in our fellowship.I hope you had a chance to check out the regional activities of our Disciples Women throughthe website. There are lots of interesting things coming up. Check out the 2009-2010 calen-dar for some exciting events in the future.May we all stop a moment on Memorial Day, and thank our God for the men andwomen who made the ultimate sacrifice so that we could worship Him in freedomand in peace.
