My Lord and Master, Jesus Christ, was a carpenter. Mygood friend, Milt Green, was a carpet cleaner. Milt had aconsuming passion to see, the church of today purged of itspresent pre-occupation with materialism and its paralysis of pride; hence, his violent attack upon carnality, which he sooften called selfish ambition. Read it and be blest. Obey itsteaching and be liberated.Blessings, Leonard Ravenhill

"Many Christians believe we are living in a time ofone of the greatest revivals in the history of theChurch. Evangelism reports from around the worldseem to substantiate this claim. Manifestations of

supernatural gifts, signs and wonders arecommonplace in a large percentage of churches. They are widely proclaimed as being from the Lordand proof that God is well pleased with the Churchtoday.Ministries are expanding into mass media evangelismwhich spans the globe. Evangelistic and charismaticgroups are experiencing tremendous numericalgrowth as new buildings can be seen springing upand spreading out in almost every direction. All of these things would seem to refute the remotepossibility that we are now living in the time of thegreat falling away of the Church: a falling away fromtrue faith and the life-style which God demands of Hispeople and which is taught in scripture. Instead, multitudes of church members say they are eagerlyanticipating the return of Christ through a secretrapture which will whisk them out of every trial andtribulation which is obviously coming upon the world. However, when close investigation is made of thepersonal lives of the church members, we find littledifference between most of their life-styles and thoseof the people in the world. Divorce, adultery, homosexuality, gossip, unforgiveness, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, and factions are asprevalent in the churches today as they are in theworld.Almost any pastor or church leader you talk to

privately will admit that down inside he knowssomething is desperately wrong. Many people wanderfrom church to church looking for something theyknow they are missing. The message of "peace andsafety" being preached cannot put an end to theirinner turmoil. They discern the spiritual emptiness inreligious traditions and often fall prey to cults andsects that draw them away from Jesus Christ and theWord of God altogether. Others are looking for thetrue body of Christ which they know is supposed to be"holy and blameless." People easily becomedisillusioned when they see in the Church what theysee in the world.Churches have turned to recreation andentertainment in an attempt to hold the people, becoming more and more like the world. Rather thanselect a pastor on the basis of his spiritual maturityand understanding, they choose a man based on hisfund-raising ability and his charismatic personality toattract people in order to increase the size of thecongregation and "build the church."Counseling ministries flourish as the messageproclaimed by the churches is not sufficient to meetthe needs of the spiritually hungry and desperatepeople. Many pastors, looking for answers, haveinvestigated other denominations and groups(sometimes secretly for fear of being labeled disloyalto their denomination), only to be disappointed to findthe other groups have similar spiritual problems.
