Commuter Challenge is an annual workplace campaign that encourages ‘commuters to take sustainable transportation to work. The goal of Commuter Challenge is to celebrate and encourage sustainable commuting during Environment Week while providing the latest tools, information and promotions to help workplaces adopt healthy ‘commuting habits. Help us encourage sustainable commuting throughout the region by challenging your constituents and other municipalities to take part as well. EXAMPLE MOTION WHEREAS the Commuter Challenge is an annual event in Metro Vancouver and Fraser Valley, established by BEST (Better Environmentally Sound Transpertation) in 1996; and WHEREAS the goal of the Commuter Challenge is to get as many people in workplaces across Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley using sustainable modes of transportation such as walking, cycling, taking transit, and ridesharing/carpooling; and WHEREAS this results in a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions into our local atmosphere, and is implicitly linked to improving public and environmental health in the region; and ‘WHEREAS the participating organizations are also encouraged to challenge others and increase the awareness of, and participation in, the event; ‘THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT, the Township of Langley participate in the ‘Commuter Challenge, encourage businesses in the Township to participate and challenge a neighboring municipality to participate.
