(FAS)My great-grandparents left Italy and came to this country in theearly 1900s. My great-grandfather landed in Canada and waspart of a crew laying rails down the East Coast. My great-grandmother came to this country to be with her family aroundRevere, Mass. When my great-grandfather's crew made it toRevere, he met a young lady, settled there and the rest is, asthey say, history, or at least my family's history.Up until the time I was preparing this sermon, it never dawnedon me what it might be like to leave family and head off in whatis for you unchartered territory. What do you take? What doyou leave behind? What do you remember and retain as partof your heritage and tradition? What part of your old life do youleave behind as your set sail for the New World? We are in the midst of a weekend we refer to as Memorial Dayweekend. Many observances have been scheduled aroundWayne and Holmes counties, not to mention throughout thecountry, where Americans take time to remember thosesoldiers who died to protect our freedoms. We might say weremember those soldiers who sacrificied their lives in order topreserve our liberty. This is a good thing. There might be some things we want toforget, but some things are worth remembering. Some things arevital to remember.
(CT)CHRISTIANS MUST REMEMBER WHAT GOD HAS DONE INTHE PAST IN ORDER TO ENSURE A BLESSED FUTURE.
(CS)While we must endeavor to come to grips with the whole counselof God, I want to focus on what we need to remember and whenit is OK to forget.

I.WHEN WE REMEMBER WHAT GOD HAS DONE INCREATION, IT HELPS US TO PUT THINGS INPERSPECTIVE.II.WHEN WE REMEMBER WHAT GOD HAS DONE TODELIVER HIS PEOPLE, IT HELPS US TO BE HUMBLE.III.WHEN WE REMEMBER WHAT GOD PROMISES TOFORGET,IT HELPS US IN OUR RELATIONSHIP WITHOTHERS.(G)I want the congregation to realize how important it is to embracethe Christian faith and pass it on.(TS)Close to 20 years ago, I was sitting at a kitchen table with twofriends. One of them, Paul Miller, was home during a break fromclasses at Annapolis. I remember him telling me and our friendShawn about something he attributed to Martin Luther, though Ihave never been able to verify the source. I still like what he hadto say.Paul said something to the effect: If you accept the first fivewords of the Bible, then you can believe the rest of it. "In thebeginning, God created ... ." If you can accept that, then you canaccept Genesis to Revelation and everything in between.
I.WHEN WE REMEMBER WHAT GOD HAS DONE IN CREATION,IT HELPS US TO PUT THINGS IN PERSPECTIVE.
A.ACCEPTING GOD AS CREATOR TEACHES US THERE ISSOMEONE MORE IMPORTANT THAN US.1. Sometimes we like to get on our high horse and think we arereally important, and when we do, we give pride a foothold intoour lives.

a.Prov. 8:13 tells us that "To fear the LORD is to hate evil; Ihate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perversespeech."b.In Prov. 16:18 it says, "Pride goes before destruction, ahaughty spirit before a fall."2.Pride is a very dangerous thing.a.In my mind, I believe all sin can be traced to pride.b.We already know from God's word it brings aboutdestruction.c. Pride separates us from God, if we allow it to take hold inour lives and to fester and grow.3.However, when we recognize God is the Creator, and we arehere because of His Power, His love and His grace, it has away of putting us in our place.a.This is evident in a throne room scene in the book ofRevelation, chapter 4, where you have the 24 elders bowingbefore God on the throne.b.In v. 11 the elders cry out, "You are worthy, our Lord andGod, to receive glory and honor and power, for you createdall things, and by your will they were created and have theirbeing."c.Part of the reason God is worthy to receive glory and honoris because He created all things.B.IF WE FORGET GOD IS CREATOR, WE SET OURSELVES UPFOR FAILURE.
