Twenty-eight peoplerepresenting the 934thAirlift Wing traveled toNew York Nov. 8 towitness North CountryLodge accept the 2007 AirForce Innkeeper Award.This is the first time aReserve base has earnedthe highest lodging awardin the Air Force.“It was so exciting tobe there to accept theaward with our command-ers, lodging staff andother wing members,”said Margo Leslie, 934thServices chief. “Our basemade history and we wereall there together to share in this once-in-a-lifetime experience.”At a luncheon Nov. 10, guest speaker Lt. Gen. John A. Bradley, Chief of Air Force Re-serve, emphasized the vital role the staff at all lodging facilities perform daily in ensuringmilitary members receive the service, care and rest they need so they can perform their duties.Ana Juarbe, North Country Lodge housekeeping supervisor, was touched by the general’swords. “It was so nice to hear him say that,” she said.Gen. Bradley’s speech was followed by the awards ceremony. Juarbe said she was honoredto hear the lodging staff from Air Force bases worldwide clap and cheer as the InnkeeperAward was presented to North Country Lodge.“I was proud to be up there on the stage when we received the trophy, to be with our staff,and to be in front of all the lodging staff from other bases,” Juarbe said. “I’m proud to knowthat we’re the best.”Besides attending the awards ceremony, lodging staff members were treated to a receptionat the world famous Waldorf-Astoria Hotel Nov. 9. There, they met and celebrated with thelodging staff from Aviano Air Base, Italy, who won the Innkeeper Award in the small basecategory. Even the language barrier between the two groups could not hamper them from ex-pressing their pride and happiness at winning for their respective bases.“It was fun to meet them, talk to them, and celebrate with them,” Juarbe said. “Some of their staff don’t speak English well and some of my staff is the same, but somehow we com-municated, and we had a great time.”The lodging staff also visited the Statue of Liberty and other famous New York landmarks.“It was a wonderful trip, full of memorable moments, and I’ll treasure those moments,”Juarbe said.
