 Three-step spiral process of: planning(which includes reconnaissance); takingactions; and fact-finding.

 Two methods of triangulation were used.
First, they cross-compared our data inorder to confirm the different themesarising from the data that came fromdifferent research techniques. (Miles andHuberman 1994).
In the second, we examined our datafrom multiple angles and differentperspectives, continually looking foralternative possibilities and differentexplanations, trying to develop a richerunderstanding of them (Lincoln andGuba 1985).3

 The process took 4 phases:1)Drawing together existing findings aboutwhat promotes and what hinders asupportive learning environment,analysing available data about theimpact of current practices.2) Gathering new data and identifyingpriorities through consultation withstudents and staff across the fiveschools about needs and priorities.3)Developing projects that would lead topositive changes to specific areas of learning support for students.4)Measuring the impact of the projects.
All the researchtook the 4 mainphases while doingthe action researchwhich are planning,acting, observingand reflecting.
