Superintendent Joe Phelan, Principal Brett King, Members of the RCSD BoardWe the undersigned support keeping Mrs. Julia Large as a kindergarten teacher in ChancellorLivingston Elementary School. In challenging economic times we must make sacrifices and focus on priorities. Retaining greatteachers is a top priority for the families of Rhinebeck.Mrs. Large is exactly the kind of educator Rhinebeck students need and deserve - thoughtful, creative, motivational, inspirational. She has much to offer Rhinebeck's future generations. We respectfully ask that you consider reinstating the kindergarten teacher position and retainingMrs. Large for the position.Thank you for considering our request.
1.Anne McGrathRhinebeck, NYHeroic efforts should be made to keep excpetionalteachers like Mrs. Large. We've had years whenkinergarten classes without an aide had 25+ studentsbecause of last minute sign ups. Under thosecircumstances it's amzaing if a teacher could keep anysense of order let alone teach anything. Let's prepare andmake sure that doesn't happen again.2.Terri Hall-JacksonRhinebeck, NYMrs. Large has been such a welcomed gift to theChancellor community. My daughter, Makena, had theprivilege of having Mrs. Large as a teacher this year. Agenerally shy child, Makena has blossomed in a classroomin which she is shown respect and consistentencouragement, in addition to the expected academiclessons at her grade level. As a parent, I was immediatelyimpressed by Mrs. Large's enthusiasm andnon-condescending way of interacting with her class.Whenever Makena came home with a report of anupsetting event, Mrs. Large took the initiative to phone methat same evening to make sure I was informed. Finally, in a teaching community lacking in racial diversity, Ithink it's very important to make an effort to keep a highquality teacher such as Mrs. Large. I'd hate to see us losesomeone who has shown such devotion, love, skill, talent, ability and a fresh perspective and voice.3.Christine O'HanRhinebeck, NYJulia Large is a wonderful teacher. She is caring, creative, and trulyappreciates each individual child. Mrs. Large takes thetime to understand each child and learn each of theirindividual needs and styles. She demonstrates great

patience and kindness and is truly an asset to ourschool community.4.Karri WolfeRhinebeck, NYThere must be a creative way that would allow Mrs. Largeto remain in the district next year. What happens thefollowing year when enrollment is back up? We allunderstand that these are tough financial times, but lowerenrollment is a temporary problem that we should not beaddressing in such a permanent manner. Losing anexceptional teacher has devastating long term impact andas the parent of a kindergartener the next two years, I feela great sense of loss for my family and our community.5.diane sutterhyde park, NYJulia Large is a one of a kind teacher. Without her mydaughter Kaitlyn wouldn't be who she is today. Mrs. Largetakes the time to make each child feel comfortable andprovides a stable environment. Without her tenderways, her knowledge & her comforting smile my daughterwouldn't be where she is today. Mrs. Large isn't just anyteacher, she's an exceptional teacher and she is what ourchildren need for a promising future. There must besomeway to allow Mrs. Large to remain in the district, please think of this as if it were your own child.7.michelle GIBSONstaatsburg, NY8.Nadine RobbinsRhinebeck, NY9.diane hardinghyde park, NYi think mrs large should stay employed because i can notonly see the improvement of my granddaughter and alsothe other students in her claasroom.which tells me she is agood teacher and the children seems like to her as well10.victor sutterhyde park, NYMy daughter is currently Mrs. Large's student, she is notonly a teacher to her but an inspiration as well. Pleasedon't let her go,the children of our future need her.11.john hardinghyde park, NYher future students need her13.Jill & SteveKaplanRhinebeck, NYMrs. Large is an extraordinary teacher. She challenges allof her students to be the best they can be. She is gentleand kind and a wonderful role model. She is the kind ofteacher we need to keep in our district. Loosing her wouldbe a disservice. She has really helped our daughter Rachelto become independent and a curious learner. She is atreasure we cannot afford to loose!!!14.Lara ViatorRhinback, NYI currently have a child enrolled at Chancellor and anotherthat will be entering kindergarten in the fall. I know fromexperience the positive impact a wonderful techer canhave on a child as well as the family unit. I have heard somany wonderful things from the parents that currently havechildren in Mrs Large's class. I believe that we owe it to ourchildren to keep Mrs Large in our school. I know that I

would be thrilled if my son was placed with such anenthusiastic placement. Please consider this petition forour children.15.Erin WahlgrenRhinebeck, NYAs a graduate of Rhinebeck Schools, I appreciated theexcellent teachers and small class size that made myeducational experience in Rhinebeck so wonderful. A fewyears ago, my husband and I moved back to Rhinebeckmainly for the schools! I now have a little girl who will startKindergarten at Chancellor in a few years and I hope thatthe Board will keep Mrs. Large so that my daughter canreceive the same outstanding education that I did.16.Kathy SmithRhinebeck, NYMy son is so lucky to have such a wonderful teacher asMrs. Large. He started out the year with social challengesand because of Mrs. Large's creative, caring, positive, andrespectful way of dealing with her students, he has had atremendous year. She is a truly gifted teacher. Losing herwould be such a loss to RCSD.17.Andrea PyrosRhinebeck, NYI am a parent of two young children who will soon bestudents at Rhinebeck. I am concerned about class size, and about the loss of such a highly respected andwell-loved teacher as Mrs. Julia Large. Please reconsideryour decision. Thank you,Andrea Pyros18.Wendi RinaldiRhinebeck, NYI have heard nothing but very positive things with regard toMrs. Large. It would be a shame to see our school districtlose such an asset for our children.19.Mark ButlerRhinebeck, NYI appreciate the efforts taken by the Board andAdministration to control spending in next year's budget. However, the most important asset a school district hasare its teachers. Mrs. Large is one of those teachers thather students will remember the rest of their lives! Herability to connect with and motivate each one of herstudents has provided the children in her class with amemorable introduction to public education. It is my hope that a solution can be reached to keep Mrs.Large where she belongs for next year and many years tocome. The creativity and sense of wonder that Mrs. Largebrings to her classroom every day is on display everyevening when our daughter Eleanor fills us in on thehappenings in Mrs. Large's classroom. Please keep her!20.Kristen SzaboStaatsburg, NYMy son was in Mrs. Large's class for part of the year lastyear. The impression she left on him for those few monthswas equilivant to, if not greater than, the teacher she wassubstituting for.My daughter will be entering kindergarten this upcomingyear. I understand that there are approximately 60 children
