INT. NEWSROOM - DAY An ANCHORWOMAN sits at a desk, reading the news. ANCHORWOMAN Good evening, Im Marilyn Hitchcock. Our top story tonight continues to be the rapidly growing brush fires in Elsinore. The blaze has grown to encompass over 1200 acres now. Pull back slowly to... INT - POLICE STATION - DAY A TV sits on a table with the same news report playing. ANCHORWOMAN (CONTD) And there are some startling and controversial new reports coming in that the blaze may have been the result of arson. An evacuation center has been set up at Lakeside High... Cut back to: Three men: POLICE CHIEF (50s), FIRE MARSHALL JAMES ANDREWS (40s), and a POLICE OFFICER. James wears a firemans T-Shirt. POLICE CHIEF Jesus Christ, how did this happen? We were going to announce the arson possibility tonight at the press conference! Now well be the ones under fire. No pun intended. POLICE OFFICER I dont know, Chief. Someones been sticking their noses in where they dont belong. POLICE CHIEF We are positive it was arson, right? JAMES Fraid the answers the same as the last ten times you asked. Yes

POLICE CHIEF Jesus. JAMES We any closer to catching who did this? POLICE OFFICER No. We dont have much to go on, though. What did you say the fire was started with? JAMES There wasnt any fuel used, except for wood. Huge pyres were made underneath about fifteen trees, then lit, probably with just a lighter. Hows the evacuation going? POLICE CHIEF Its going. Its not an easy task to move this many people out of their homes. Another OFFICER opens the door to the room. OFFICER Hey, we got something. INT. EVIDENCE ROOM - DAY The three from before along with a CSI TECH stand around a table with a pile of QUARTS ROCKS sitting on it. POLICE CHIEF Theyre rocks. Whats so special about them? POLICE OFFICER Jesus Christ, Marie, its a mineral. Everyone gives the officer a "WTF" look. POLICE OFFICER (contd) What, nobody else watches Breaking Bad? CSI TECH Anyway. CSI TECH (contd) piled directly in front of one of the pyres used to start the fire. POLICE CHIEF Im guessin quartz dont grow in the woods, does it. CSI TECH No it does not. We think it may have been put there as a sort of calling card from whoever did this. POLICE CHIEF Quartz? What the hell kinda calling card is that? CSI TECH Were not sure. Anyway, thats about the size of it. We havent found anything else. James looks disturbed. INT. MOVING TRUCK - DAY James drives the truck. He looks unsettled. EXT. WOODS - DAY - FLASHBACK James walks though the woods, searching. JAMES (Calling) Flynn! Flynn? Flynn, where are you? James see YOUNG FLYNN sitting on the ground, legs crossed. JAMES (contd) Flynn, there you are! Your mother and I have been worried sick. Where- Flynn? As James comes closer he sees that Flynn sits at a campfire. He holds a large stick over the fire. There is a dead cat impaled, with the sick entering its anus and coming out its mouth. JAMES (contd) Fuck! Flynn, what the hell is that?! (CONTINUED)

James grabs Flynn, wrenches him up and looks directly at him. As he does this, the cat-stick falls into the flames. JAMES (contd) Flynn, what were you doing?! (Beat) Flynn, answer me! Flynn stays silent. James begins to drag him away. INT - ANDREWS HOUSE - DAY CECILIA, James wife, packs boxes for evacuation. James enters through the front door. CECILIA Hey, could youJAMES Wheres Flynn? CECILIA Im not sure, IJames doesnt wait for her to finish. He rushes upstairs to... INT. ANDREWS HOUSE - FLYNNS ROOM - CONTINUOUS James runs in. JAMES Flynn? James sees that Flynn is not there. He leaves. As he exits the frame he reveals... A display table with a glass case. Filled with labeled quartz stone. EXT. LAKESIDE HIGH SCHOOL - EARLY EVENING A large sign reads: LAKESIDE HIGH SCHOOL. James drives his truck into the parking lot. It is empty.

EXT. LAKESIDE HIGH SCHOOL BACK - CONTINUOUS James jogs beside the side wall. JAMES Please, please dont be here. Please, please, dont be here. James rounds the corner to the back wall. JAMES (contd) Oh God. Turn to reveal... FLYNN. A wooden pyre with a propane tank in its center and a small pile of quarts in front of it. FLYNN Hi Dad. JAMES Flynn, dont do this! I can help you! FLYNN Help me? Help me with what? Ive never felt better. Im done acting like everyone else around everyone else, Dad. I am an individual, and to show individualism, one must display it to the masses. And Im going to show the masses a gasoline drenched inferno. Id stand back if I were you, Dad. JAMES FlynnSlow motion. Flynn strikes a match and throws it onto the pyre. JAMES (contd) NO! The pyre ignites. Flynn spreads his arms, and smiles as the flames spread across the gas soaked grass to him, and set him aflame. JAMES (contd) Flynn!

The propane tank explodes. James is far enough away that it only sends him flying and doesnt engulf him. He lands in the bushes several meters away. James rolls over and up slightly to gaze a Flynns burning corpse. We focus on the body as we... FADE TO BLACK END
