 About this Report
The Hovercraft industry is set to expand considerably over the next10 years as new technology makes ownership more affordable. This report deals with the development of small hovercraft, and howlower pricing is set to raise the profile of personal leisurehovercraft (PLH) and increase sales.Small hovercraft will also appeal to companies and organisationsinvolved in rescue, from water, flooded areas, sand, mud andice/snow; patrol, commercial use, environmental control.Recent developments will offer significant business opportunities forthose able to fully exploit them. This Report explains why personal hovercraft are set to challengepersonal watercraft (Jet Skis) and snowmobiles. Hovercraft are trueall terrain vehicles, able to travel over any flat surface, ie sand, mud, water, ice, snow, rivers, lakes, grass, tarmac. They have theability to travel quickly from water to land to water, and for thisreason, have wide appeal, particularly with experience ridecustomers. This report contains a link to a Buyers Guide to explain hovercraftterms and what to look for when purchasing a small hovercraft. Thereport highlights key potential markets for small hovercraft, and whythey will be invaluable for rescue, commercial, environmental survey, military and homeland patrol applications. The report explains whobuys mini hovercraft, and why.The report identifies key business opportunities for affiliates, promoters, resellers and dealers, rental income and OEM sub-assemblymanufacturing opportunities. The report provides access to a calculator to show the huge rentalpotential for resort operators, corporate event organisers, andexplore potential profits, for franchising and financing rental suboperators. The report identifies a major sub manufacturing opportunity to createyour own hovercraft from OEM sources using proven designs and readycompleted hulls for you to fit engines and options to suit segmentmarket requirements. Hovercraft Industry – where we are
Hovercraft were first commercial tested in 1957. A number ofdevelopment engineers contributed to the design, but the termhovercraft was first patented by Sir Christopher Cockerell.Useful links:Hovercraft - Wikipedia,Sir Christopher Cockerell
Small hovercraft
Hovercraft are weight dependent vehicles and in the past, smallhovercraft were predominantly designed by enthusiasts who race eachother at weekend club events. Having the lightest craft may help winraces, but lightweight designs are not suitable for marine leisureapplications where safety and durability are crucial. Durablehovercraft are naturally heavier than race hovercraft. Marine leisurevehicles such as PWC (Jet-Skis) need to be easy to use, safe in themarine environment, buoyant, easily transportable, easy to maintain, and have good availability of spare parts. Racing hovercraft areinvariably cobbled together with second hand engines and parts fromthe local scrap yard. Small hovercraft hulls tend to be made fromthin glass fibre - GRP is fine for water-based vehicles, but not sopractical for all terrain use where the occasional tree mightobstruct one’s path – in such a scenario, glass fibre candisintegrate and generally spoil your day. Glass fibre hullconstruction takes time, so any manufacturer who wishes to expandproduction, will find this process a handicap, which may restrictcompany growth potential.New manufacturing materials and processes are now being used, forexample the Hov Pod Hovercraft is now manufactured from HDPE (HighDensity Polyethylene), a material that has a number of key benefitsfor hovercraft hull construction. The material is impact resistant, very lightweight and extremely buoyant. HDPE has been used in thepast to manufacture artificial knee joints, F1 Crash Barriers, IceHockey Rink Barriers.HDPE makes manufacturing expansion and sales growth possible, topopularise leisure hovercraft for marine leisure enjoyment.Hov Pod originally manufactured hulls from Glass Fibre, but thisprocess is labour intensive, and build time at busy times of the yearultimately led to customer delivery delays. To ensure satisfactorycustomer delivery times, the manufacturer of the Hov Pod, ReactionInternational Ltd, took the decision in 2005 to make the significantinvestment to manufacture Hov Pod hulls from HDPE. The first HDPEhulls started shipping January 2008, and key advantages over rival
