This workshop will teach teachers different ways to use vocabulary with ELLs. Teachers will beshown examples of how they can do this in language arts, writing, science, social studies andmath using SMART Notebook and Audacity. Teachers will learn how to use Word Walls with ELLstudents. Teachers will then use SMART Notebook, audacity, and Voice Thread to createvocabulary lists for their students.

Participants will identify vocabulary words for their grade level.
Participants will create words walls to use with units in their classrooms.
Participants will generate audio clips using Audacity for their students.
Participants will develop part of a lesson that they might use in their classroom that usesbest practices for vocabulary with ELLs.

Part 1 (2 hours)A list of words will be shown to the participants in a different language. The presenter will haveeach participant write down what they think each words means. They will get 1 or 2 minutes tothink. Then they will share with a partner, using the Think Pair Share strategy again. Thengroups will share with the group as a whole. The presenter will then show the group pictures tomatch the words they were just shown. Participants will share their experiences and learningpreference. The presenter will explain that this is often what ELL students face every day intheir classrooms. The presenter will present information on using vocabulary with ELL studentsin the classroom and the importance of Word Walls. Samples of what it would look like willthen be presented to the group. The group will reflect and share their thoughts after eachsubject is presented. Both Audacity and SMART Notebook will be used to demonstrate differentways to use vocabulary with ELL students in the classroom.Break (10-15 minutes)Part 2 (approximately 1:45)Participants will work either in groups or individually to create lessons that they can use in theirclassroom with students. Participants will create work in SMART Notebook as well as Audacity.They will work on making sure to incorporate the use of Word Walls. Before the workshopends, participants will have the opportunity to share with the group what they worked on andhow they will use it in their classroom.

Smart Notebook will be needed for all teachers so each teacher needs to have a computer towork on.
