Letter from the Editor
If you’re anything like me, you are counting down the days untilspring is officially here. There are so many things to look forwardto as spring approaches. Warmer weather. Blooming flowers. And more time spent outdoors.I get the love of spring from mymother. Growing up, I remember onthe first warm day of spring shewould let us bust out the kites. Tounderstand the excitement of a kite, you have to realize this was beforethe technology boom. A kite was ourvideo game. A kite was our iPod.Just some plastic, a string and agood breeze was all we needed to keep us entertained for hoursin the warm sunshine.Sometimes we forget moms know things about us. Momknows when we are lying. She knows when we’ve caused somemischief and she always seems to know when we need to go out-side and just fly a kite.My mom didn’t work outside the home. The only promotionshe got was knowing her children went to school well dressed, well groomed and well fed. Her raises were in the form of art, encrusted with glitter and macaroni, which usually hung on therefrigerator for months. She would gush over our masterpieceslike they should have been hanging in a gallery. She made us feellike we were on top of the world.Moms give to us more then we could ever imagine. A mom’shard work can leave us wondering how we could ever repay herfor all her hugs that created miracles or her love that gave uswarmth. Now is your chance to give back to a mom, either your own ora mother you know that deserves a little pampering. Silk hasdecided to help one mom realize how much she is loved. Insidethis issue is an application for the Picture Perfect Mommakeover contest. Write to us, in 300 words or less, and tell uswhy the mom in your life deserves a manicure and pedicure fromVivian Gilbert; a facial and makeup from Le Visage Day Spaand Skin Care Clinic; a cut, color and style from PrivateCollection Spa and Salon and an outfit from Dillard’s in SoonerFashion Mall. The experience will be captured by Nakia BirniePhotography. The deadline for submissions is April 10. The win-ner will be announced in the May/June issue of Silk. Come onand make that mom feel like she’s on top of the world.Sincerely,Shana Adkisson, EditorTable of Contents
