SUMMARY
The National Agricultural Statistics Service(NASS)uses an area sampling frame withland-use stratification to obtain farmrelatedestimates. Prtor to use of a new frame, sample sizes by substrata must bedetermined. A design based sampleallocation to substrata is not used. Sampleunits are allocatedto strata and partitionedequally among substrata within eachstratum. The strata-level allocation resultsin a slightly inflated State sample size.Overall, havingequal substrata sample sizeswithin each strata instead of allowingthesubstrata sample sizes to vary showedinsignificant effectforKansasinthis study.
