Saint John Board of Trade
Chair’s Message
It is my honour to serve as the Chairof the Saint John Board of Trade duringits 190th year! This year is already shapingup to be an exciting one!On May 6th I was inducted as the Chairof our organization at the AnnualLuncheon. This year we had memorabiliaon display, which was complemented bya 20-page insert in the Telegraph Journal.Photos of the meeting and luncheon areon page 3.At the meeting and luncheon, I had theopportunity to outline this year’s KeyPriorities. The major priorities we will befocusing on for the 2009-2010 year are:the Energy Hub, through improved airservice; Workforce Expansion, throughthe creation of centres of excellence atUNBSJ and NBCC-SJ; InfrastructureDevelopment, with a sustainable watertreatment system; and Transportation withthe Twinning of Route 7. All of thesepriorities and the long-term priorities of the Board, like Sustainability, areexplained in detail in the Key Priorities2009-2010document that islocated on theAdvocacypage of our website.Of course, our success over the past190 years would not be possible withouta very special group of members, ourvolunteers! These are members who givetheir time and expertise to the bettermentof our organization and community.Enclosed in this issue is the “Thank YouVolunteers” insert. If you are interestedin volunteering on one of the Board’sCommittees, Task Forces, or Forums, Iencourage you to call the Board office. This year we will be focusing onworking together and strengthening ourrelationships with the local area Chambersof Commerce and stakeholders to promoteour Key Priorities. The four majorpriorities that we are focusing on affectthe region as a whole, not just Saint John.Together we are stronger!I hope you enjoy this issue of Currentson Green Development. This is an issuethat is close to my heart as Fundy Linenhas taken steps to reduce its carbonfootprint and become a sustainableorganization. There are some excellenttips on how businesses and individualscan become sustainable to be found inthese pages and on our website! As amember of the Sustainability Network, the Board of Trade has included someinformation on sustainability and a ToolKit for businesses on its website underthe Advocacy menu!
