The mainobstacle to mobile payments adoption isthe low percentage of the population inThailand covered by mobile networks—38 percent versus the average of 94percent. Expanding mobile coverage is vitalfor the wider adoption of mobile payments.
Led by strong Consumer Readinessscores, Thailand has a score of 31.6on the MasterCard Mobile PaymentsReadiness Index.
Consumer scoresreveal a higher-than-average familiarity,willingness, and usage frequency of all types of mobile payments. Withimprovements made to the Environmentand Infrastructure components of theIndex, Thailand could set the stage for greater use of mobile payments inthe future.
