Pro-Life Messages
The Alan Guttmacher Institute, which favors the "freedom to terminate unwanted pregnancies" (Mission statement), states that 12%, that is, 164,400 of the 1.37 million abortions that occurred in 1996 occurred after 12 weeks of pregnancy. It further indicates that some 13,700 of these abortions took place at 21 weeks or more (Source: Website of the Alan Guttmacher Institute). Babies delivered at this stage of development have been known to survive.

Stewardship and Development

Stewardship Thought: Faith in God is a common theme in todays Scripture passages. In the Book of Wisdom, God gives the faithful courage in the face of adversaries. The Letter to the Hebrews teaches us that faith is confident assurance concerning what we hope for. In St. Lukes Gospel, Jesus proclaims, Who, then, is the faithful and prudent steward whom the master will put in charge? We know it is the steward who faithfully serves the Lord and others. Upon the Masters arrival, this steward will be blessed with even more responsibility of the Masters gifts to build the Kingdom. As Christian stewards, this is what we strive for.
Development Thought: Have you named our parish or our diocese as a beneficiary of your retirement plan (pension, IRA, etc.)? Would you like to? The remainder left in your retirement plan once you are gone is often very highly-taxed for your children or other beneficiaries you name, but is able to benefit our parish or our entire diocese tax-free, at its full value. It is very simple to make a beneficiary designation and a generous, loving method of giving back to the Lord a portion of what He has blessed you with during your lifetime. For assistance, contact Judy Held, Office of Stewardship and Development, at 800-332-9998 or at stewardship@dioceseofgfb.org.

Carpeting Replacement
The carpeting on the main floor of St. Marys church has served the parish well for 30 years, but is overdue for replacement. In preparation for replacement, a number of parishioners have been asked to assist in choosing new carpeting.
Arts Furniture has given us an estimate of $9100 to replace all carpeting on the main floor, including the sanctuary and entrance. Any contributions to defray the expense of replacement will be greatly appreciated!

Mass Intentions
As Catholics, we have a long tradition of having Masses celebrated for those we wish to offer up in prayer. The Mass is the ultimate form of prayer, and each Mass is celebrated for an intention. Please consider having Masses celebrated for family and friends on special occasions and anniversaries, as well as those who are in need of prayers. Masses are also encouraged in memory of those loved ones who have died, especially on the anniversaries of their deaths. Contact Fr. Cory for more information! Follow us on Facebook and Twi er!
