America Once Flew As Eagles Now Roost As Turkeys
The puritans and destitutes who settled the American frontier were independent entrepreneurswho ran from large controlling governments in Europe. Freedom was the calling card for theindividual who was king of his or her destiny. If the settlers failed, it was by their ownincompetence and then tried even harder no matter how long it took. They sought no governmentintervention, no handouts. Those who valued socialism, monarchies, and dictatorships to takecare of them, a commoner, remained in Europe and Asia. Those who wanted independence fromdependency, reward of wealth by hard work, and not told what they can or cannot do bygovernment elites, left for America. Those who decided on an emblematic mascot to represent the true American expectancy couldhave chosen either the native American Turkey or the native Bald Eagle. Turkeys were a fat andlazy bird that spend most of their time on the ground because of their weight and ineptitude madethem easy prey to most predators. For a national bird of the new America of the 17
00’s, this bird
did not represent the core concept of the populace of that time. The free and emancipated, risk taking, individual entrepreneurs represented an eagle, free, independent, self supportive, andstrong. The individual, the eagle, the top predator feared by those elected trying to control andextort funds from them.Americans today are no longer eagles. Dependent of government subsidies to survive at recordlevel
, over weight at record levels, unemployment “not working”
at record levels, irresponsiblegovernment debt at record levels. America today is more like a turkey then an eagle of our forefathers. We are lazy, fat and dependent. What were once considered an adult at 18 years of age is now 24 plus
. Most 24 year olds still live at home. In 1940’
s, an 18 year old was either acommander flying B17
’s or
a responsible parent having their first child married for life. Today,American youth are on-line gaming street gangs; selling drugs to kids, having children at recordlevels out of wedlock, murdering at record levels, all under some form of assistance. The retired, who now live until 85 plus years of age, demand government assistance as if they paid into thesystem, working only 25 years (paying a fraction to monthly benefits to full benefits atretirement), demand a lazy, unproductive lifestyle to some 50 years plus of travel, relaxation, free healthcare.
