Output response as a function of input voltage

This experiment shows the relationship between the input voltage and the output voltage for a comparator. The function of a comparator is explored practically and verified experimentally. Set up the following circuit with the"Comparator / Schmitt-Trigger" card SO4203-7X:

The following animation illustrates how to set up the experiment: To display the output voltage VOut open the virtual instrument Voltmeter A via the menu options Instruments | Meters | Voltmeter A or by clicking on the image below and selecting the settings shown in the following table. Voltmeter A (Vout) Settings Measurement range: Operating mode: 2 V DC AV

To display the input voltage VIn open the virtual instrument Voltmeter B via the menu options Instruments | Meters | Voltmeter B or by clicking on the image below and selecting the setttings shown in the following table. Voltmeter B (VIn) Settings Measurement range: Operating mode: 10 V DC AV

Open the virtual instrument DC source via the menu options Instruments | Voltage sources | DC source or by clicking on the image below and selecting the settings as

shown in the following table. Then switchc the instrument on by clicking on the POWER button. DC Source Settings Range: Output voltage: Set the potentiometer P1 to the far right limit. Increase the input voltage of the DC source until the red LED goes out and the green LED lights up. In small incremental steps reduce the input voltage until the red LED just lights up again. Measure the input voltage using the voltmeter B and enter the results into the appropriate box below. VIn = 4.7V Correct. Which reference voltage has to be applied to the non-inverting input? Un.-inv. = 4.7V Correct. Which component determines the magnitude of this voltage? D1 Correct. 10 V 0V

Output response to AC voltage

This experiment shows the comparator response when an AC voltage is applied. For this experiment the circuit from the previous experiment is modified as follows. Close all of the active virtual instruments and remove the connections. Modify the experiment as follows:

The subsequent animation illustrates how to set up the experiment: Open the virtual instrument Function generator via the menu option Instruments | Voltage sources | Function generator or by clicking on the image below and selecting the settings as shown in the following table. Subsequently the instrument is switched on by clicking on the POWER button. Function Generator Settings Amplitude at 1:1 : Frequency: Signal shape: 100 % 100 Hz Triangular

Open the virtual instrument Oscilloscope via the menu option Instruments | Meters | Oscilloscope or by clicking on the image below and selecting the settings as shown in the subsequent table. Oscilloscope Settings Channel A Channel B Time base: Operating mode: Trigger: 5 V / div 5 V / div 2 ms / div X/T, DC B

Change the reference voltage using P1 and observe the oscilloscope trace. Use P1 to set the reference voltage so that the trigger or switching threshold of the comparators is at approx. +5V.

Use the oscilloscope to measure the input voltage VIn and the output voltage VOut.Drag and drop the resulting oscillograph trace into the appropriate place holder below.
