Are YOU Ready???
By Kristin Reed
I was asked to share a little bit about myexperience in New Zealand. The one thingthat hit to the core are a couple of questions“Am I Ready” and “Do I Believe”?One day in my time alone with God in themorning I was reading in 2 John. The onething that stuck out was that in confidencewe can ask for anything when we liveaccording to His will. That morning I askedto experience God’s power and to allow meto be ready to receive it. That day we had ahealing evangelist speaking to us. When hewas done speaking and praying overpeople I felt like it was my turn. Since I wasa child I have had one leg longer than theother. I really felt like God wanted to healme that day. I believed that God was goingto heal. Weston prayed over my leg and Iphysically watched my leg grow. PraiseGod!!! If God says that we can come to Himand ask anything in confidence why don’twe? Are you ready to ask God for healingand believe that He wants to heal? If wecan come to God with any request why not?
So You Want To Be a Political Science Major?!
By John Fournelle
You know, I have to be honest: this reallystarted out as a joke, but upon meditating onwhat I have learned in my political sciencemajor, there are actually some merits to havingit. For me, my ultimate goal is to become a professor and profess political science, theology, philosophy, the whole shebang. However, during my time Washington, DC, I learnedabout all sorts of things you can do with a political science degree. The obvious thing you could do is work ingovernment. Many of my colleagues inWashington were interns for their congressperson. Sure they felt their souls getsucked out each and every day, but the luckyfew actually enjoyed it, and even got jobs withtheir congressperson. But as a friend of minereminded me several months ago, if you want tosee change, especially in your neighborhood, change happens on the local level. If I moveinto a neighborhood like Phillips or Midway, Iwould seriously consider getting involved intheir governing councils. Hey, I have a politicalscience degree don’t I?

The Marie Sandvik Center

So You Want To Be a Political Science Major?! -
Continued - - -
The Marie Sandvik Center is a Christian based 501(c)3 non-profitcharitable organization providing for the material and spiritual needs of the poor living in the inner city. The mission is supported solely bychurches and private donations, not the government. This way sharingGod's message of love can be our primary focus. It is located on FranklinAvenue in the Phillips neighborhood of south Minneapolis. There is something going on at the center every day: evening churchservices, women's meetings, after school Bible clubs for children,Saturday Kids Club and special events like Thanksgiving and Christmas.Through these programs we distribute clothing, quilts, baby layettes, food, diapers and financial help to thousands of people each year. Thisopens up a wonderful door to share the Gospel message and God's lovewith each person that we help. But there is another thing political science kids can do, and that involvesthe glorious world of the nonprofit. Places like WorldVision, So OthersMight Eat, and various rescue missions look at political science peoplewith respect. In that world of nonprofit aid work, interaction withgovernment is unavoidable, and much of their work has politicalimplications. It takes smart people who are willing to serve the least of these by engaging the great of these to make a difference in our world. So, if you’re not one of those power-hungry political science kids whowants to be Secretary of State someday, perhaps serving Christ innonprofit work is right for you.As for me, well, I chose to become a political science major because Iwanted to serve Christ and his Church in understanding more that greatquestion of “how do we be in the world and not of it?” With the manynew questions arising in our church, a political science perspective, biblically grounded and Spirit-led, sure is helpful.
