Difference between D.C. and A.D.C.? D.C. stands for Domain Controller and A.D.C.

stands for Additional Domain Contro ller. A.D.C. is a back up copy of D.C. Only one different is available Between D .C. and A.D.C. i.e. - Operation Master Role. On D.C all of the three Operation M aster Roles are available1. RID Master 2. PDC Emulator 3. Infrastructure Operation Master Role But on A.D.C no any operation master roles are available. There is no difference between in DC and ADC both contains write copy of AD. Bot h can also handles FSMO roles (If transfers from DC to ADC). Functionality wise there is no difference. ADC just require for load balancing & redundancy. If two physical sites are segregated with WAN link come under same domain, better to k eep one ADC in other site, and act as a main domain controller for that site. Th is will reduce the WAN traffic and also user authentication performance will inc rease. FSMO Roles.. FSMO Roles Explained Within Active Directory not all Domain Controllers are equal some have certain r oles assigned to them, these roles need to be performed by a single Domain Contr oller. These roles are called the FSMO roles (Flexible Single Master Operations) . There are 5 roles 2 of which are forest wide and the other 3 are domain wide r oles. The 5 roles are as follows: Schema master (forest wide): The Schema Master controls all updates to the Schema within the forest. Domain Naming Master (forest wide): The Domain Naming Master role is responsible for the creation and deletion of do mains in the forest. PDC Emulator (domain wide): The PDC emulator role provides backwards compatability for Windows NT backup dom ain controllers (BDCs), the PDC emulator advertises itself as the primary domain controller for the domain. It also acts as the domain master browser and mainta ins the latest password for all users within the domain. Infrastructure Master (domain wide): The Infrastructure Manager role is responsible for updating references from obje cts within its domain with objects in other domains.
