Organization:
The list has booksrecommended by ranks. A good goal is toread at least one to two books from the listfor the rank of the member per year—this is inaddition to the Marine Corps ProfessionalMilitary Education Reading List.For lateral move Marines coming into theintelligence field, the DIRINT recommendsreading at least one additional book peryear from the selections for the ranks belowthe one currently held.Often there are questions whether oneshould read books for higher ranks than thatcurrently held by the service member. Ideallyone should read all the books for one’scurrent and previous ranks before selectingworks intended for higher ranks, but thisshould not be an ironclad rule. Reading ANYbook from ANYWHERE on this list is preferableto reading nothing.
Purpose:
The U.S. Marine Corps IntelligenceReading List is intended to identify thoseworks that assist in achieving practicaltechnical mastery leading to success inMarine Corps tactical intelligence andwarfighting as a whole.
Objectives:
This list aims to complement theMarine Corps Professional Reading List withadditional works specifically selected toaccomplish the following:

Increase general understanding of theintelligence profession
•
Impart technical knowledge regardingintelligence operations
•
Add historical depth to and explanationof current intelligence doctrine and TTP
