Panimulang salita

Noon, mga 4 na buwan ang tagal ng pagkokompost ng mgamagsasaka. Mangilan-ngilan lamang ang nagkompost dahilsangkatutak ang kailangang sangkap, matrabaho ang paggawa atpaggamit, at matagal bago makita ang magandang epekto ngkompost sa palay.Ngayon, 3-4 na linggo na ang bilis ng pagkokompost. Maraminang gumagawa at nagbebenta ng organikong pataba dahil nais ngpamahalaang gamitin natin itong uri ng pataba bilang pandagdag samga kemikal na abono.Sa halip na bibilhin natin, makagagawa tayo ng sarili natingorganikong pataba kung nanaisin natin. Maaari na ring pagkakitaanang paggawa nito dahil suportado tayo ng pamahalaan.Sa PhilRice, aming natuklasan na maaaring tustusan ngorganikong pataba ang kalahati ng nitroheno na kailangan ng palay.Bunga nito, makatitipid na ang mga magsasaka, hindi pa gaanongaasim ang lupa.Kailangang pataasin pa ang ani nating palay, ngunit dapat dingalagaan ang lupa. Tinipon sa babasahing ito ang mga karunungan ngmga siyentipiko sa pagkokompost na sina Dr. Virginia Cuevas ngInstitute of Biological Sciences (IBS) na gumawa ng compost fungalactivator (CFA), at Dr. Bayani Espiritu ng National Institute of MolecularBiology and Biotechnology (BIOTECH) na bumuo ng bio-enrichedcomposting technology (BIO-QUICK at BIO-FIX). Sila ay mgadalubhasa sa University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB).
