the Demercian ruins in the dark of night. With the heir of the magocracy found, the Seeker of the Blood had been sending a lot more of their grunts inopposition against councilmen like Eris, but they were all taken care in a similar fashion. They would charge with their oversized letter opener and then be exterminated before they could launch any sort of assault.Eris turned around, eager to continue on his way

a few more blasts of eldritch energy at him, but the bolts hit the man and seemed to sink in.With a grin, the man rubbed the blood from his lip.“You’ll have to do a lot more than that to take me down, mage.” With widening eyes, the councilman shot whatever he had at the man, but to no avail. This man was an atronach: amagekiller.

 Atronach
An anomaly born or created, the atron-ach has a natural resistance and absorp-tion factor, making them perfect warriorsagainst mages everywhere.A rare individual indeed, the atronach is acreature built for battling mages and theelements in general. Sometimes, atro-nachs are born naturally, demonstrating
an unusual resistance to open ames or freezing winds. As they mature, their afnity
(or lack thereof) becomes more and morepronounced. Sometimes, through strangearcane experiments and rituals, atronachsare created, trained to be the antithesis of wizards and their ilk around the world.Play an atronach if you want…
to be a character that turns the tide of battle in odd ways.
a hero with an abnormally strange past.
to have powers that are violent reactionsagainst your foes.
Physical Qualities
More often than not, an atronachlooks indistinguishable from their normalcounterparts. The distinction of being anatronach is mostly an internal one with theexception of unusually brilliant blue eyes innaturally born atronachs.Created atronachs, however, are a different
story. With the uctuation of arcane energy, the physical form of an articial atronach iswarped, though this can be xed through
magical procedures. If not tended to, created atronachs oftenhave patches of callused skin all over their body that faintly glows in dim light. Addition-ally, their skin is typically paler than their previous tone.If attacked by an elemental attack, theatronach comes out of it looking relativelyunharmed. While this may be the case, there have been reports of an atronach“overloading” and exploding in an arcanetempest.
Playing an Atronach
The atronach can go many differentways when discovering their powers. Theycan be proud of their uniqueness, constant-ly striving to demonstrate and show off their powers. Sometimes, they can be ashamedof their power, seeing it unnatural to be asponge for arcane power.Regardless, they have a certain reserv-ation towards magic. While they are notinitially afraid it, they grow uncomforta-ble after taking in too much magical en-ergy. The possibility of literally collapsinginternal after absorbing too much power is a constantly scare when combatingmagic users. The concept of a magic using atronach at
rst seems suicidal. However, theorists say
that since atronachs are a constant conduitfor raw magic, they make amazing wizards
and sorcerers. The constant ebb and ow
of magic in their bodies provides them with
an afnity to it. This isn’t to say that theydon’t make great ghters either.
The name “atronach” comes from an oldlegend of a guardian golem that was de-
signed with ghting mages in mind. It would
lumber towards their opponents, ignoring
any and all spells that struck it until it nally
lifted its mighty hand and crushed the of-fending mage.
However, the opportunity of specialized
employment constantly presents itself toopen atronachs. The atronach is a well-sought out creature; kings, warlords, andemployers all seek the one who can weath-

er the onslaught of magical powers.Atronach Characteristics: Powerful,
strange, condent, tough, determined.
Atronach Names: They usually use namesfrom their original racial culture. Though, itis not farfetched for created atronachs to
have more scientic names.
 Atronach Adventurers
Three sample atronach adventurers aredescribed below.Solianas is eladrin atronach sorcerer.
Having his powers from birth, he learned
to channel whatever power was fed intohim into chaotic bursts. Being an atronachsometimes frightens him, as his natural sor-cerery powers are chaotic and unpredict-able, his absorption powers can only make
those powers greater. He fears that oneday, he won’t be able to handle his power,
leading to disastrous results.
Jaden is a human ghter. Enlisted early on
into a special unit within Fallow, Jaden wasput through many excruciating tests, creat-ing an atronach out of him. After servingthe imperialist government, he was sent toassist the taking of Staffhaven, the city of mages. Seeing this as the perfect way to
escape, he ed the battle under the chaos
that ensued. Now he travels a group of ad-
venturers, anxious to nd the program that
did this to him and end it, so no one willhave to go through what he did.Petru is a shadar-kai rogue associated withthe Nightwatch. After being found as a nat-ural born atronach, Petru was put throughdifferent tests, anonymously placed by theNightwatch, to make sure he was the right
thing. After passing each with ying colors,he was ofcially inducted into the Night
-watch, an ancient organization that seeksto destroy the remnants of Verelith andthe Shadow. Specializing in attacking the
priests that lead Shadowcults, he’s indiffer
-ent towards his powers. They help him and
that’s all that matters to him.
