pioneer city r Varanasi the pionee: ‘Shahadat Diwas’ observed VARANASI (PNS): Under the banner of Lohta unit of Bunkar Dashtkar Adhikar Manch, death anniversary of | Shahbuddin, a child died of ‘malnutrition, was observed in Dhannipur village here on Sunday and observed the day as “Shahadat Diwas’. The activists of the manch said that after May 31, 2008 when Shahabuddin died, as many as four other chi dren also died there due to malnutrition last year and they were Shahin Parveen, Mohd Imran, Mohd Shahi and Mohd. Ishraq. ‘The unique feature of the programme was the presence of people of both Hindu and Muslim community and they observed the death anniver- sary of Shahabuddin as per their religious rituals. The Muslims assembled at a ground near Anganbadi cen- tre where they offered ‘Duwakhwani’, while the Hindus offered floral trib- utes to all the children died recently in the village due to malnutrition. The children of both the community assembled on a common platform and pledged that now they would not allow any child in the vil- lage to die of malnutrition. ‘They warned that district administration, Anganbadi workers and ANMs that if any child dies of malnutrition they would not sit silent. They said that the area is not involved in the weavers’ cluster scheme and urged the administration to include the same as the poor weavers of the area are facing starva- tion-like situation. ‘They said that they the project officer had claimed after the death of Shahabuddin that it would adopt 20 children but no efforts were made in this direction and since then many other children had become the victims of mal- nutrition, It is found in a sur- vey that as many as 104 chil- dren of the village are suf- fering from malnutrition but till date the administration had not taken any positive steps'so far The meeting was presided over by regional president of Manh Babu Lal Maurya and conducted. by Aftab Alam.
