On 12 January, we opened our latest environmental storein Cheetham Hill, Manchester. Here we have cut the carbonfootprint by 70% compared to an equivalent store built in 2006.

We hope to build
zero carbon stores
Of the 70% carbon savings at CheethamHill, 31% has been achieved throughenergy efciency measures, 20% by usingnatural refrigerant and 19% by using anatural, sustainable fuel in a CombinedCooling, Heat and Power plant.While we may not be able to use all thesemeasures in every new store location,the blueprint ensures that all the newstores we build will have a carbonfootprint at least 50% smaller than our2006 stores.We will continue to work on our newblueprint and hope to build stores with azero carbon footprint.For customers, our new store atCheetham Hill will be just as friendly andwelcoming as any other Tesco store.However, while it might seem the same,it is actually very different.
The new blueprint has been created to be exible acrossall types of our stores, and elements can – and will – beincorporated into existing stores too.
