3Plaintiff Jesse Campodonico sues the City of Miami, Sergeant Javier Ortiz, andOfficers Nathaniel Dauphin, Edward Lugo, and Harold James, for damages.
NATURE OF THE ACTION
1.This is an action for damages arising out of a beating, tasing, and false arrestand coverup by City of Miami police officers on the evening of March 25, 2011, at the UltraMusic Festival held at Bicentennial Park. This action alleges violations of federal civil rightslaws, 42 U.S.C. §1983, and the laws of the State of Florida, and the Plaintiff seeks in excessof $75,000 exclusive of interest and costs.
JURISDICTION AND VENUE
2.This Court has subject-matter jurisdiction over this action under 28 U.S.C. §§1331, 1332(a), and 1367(a).3.Under 28 U.S.C. § 1391(b)(2), venue lies in the United States District Courtfor the Southern District of Florida, Miami Division, because it is the judicial district anddivision in which a substantial part of the events or omissions giving rise to the claimsoccurred.
4.Plaintiff Jesse Campodonico (“Plaintiff Campodonico”) is a citizen of the Stateof New York.5.Defendant City of Miami (“Defendant City”) is a political subdivision of theState of Florida, a Florida municipal corporation, and at all relevant times had ultimate
