Sanctity of Human Life Sunday
By Pastor Michael Howland, Youth Pastor
January 20th is Sanctity of Human Life Sunday. We believethat life begins at conception. This year our student ministrywants to make a difference and help a local pro-life ministryso Heirborn Student Ministries is throwing a baby shower forRuth Harbor Ministries. Ruth Harbor is a home away from homefor many young women who become pregnant. Ruth Harborprovides security and safety in aloving, family-style home. Hous-ing, food, and healthcare areprovided at no charge, givingthese women the support theyneed to work and save for theirfuture or pursue educational andcareer opportunities. While atRuth Harbor, women receive excellent prenatal care and nutri-tious meals that are essential to their health and the health of their babies. They also receive weekly Christ-centered counselingand information on both parenting and adoption options. Weeklyclasses will provide information to help each mother prepare forher future and that of her baby. Our particular baby shower is a little different than theaverage baby shower. We won’t be giving diapers, baby bottles, etc—instead, we will be sharing gifts with this pro life ministrythat will help meet office and care/ministry needs. Teens willenjoy lunch, cake and punch as they listen to Mark McDougalshare more information about this ministry as well as hear testi-monies from two mothers directly impacted by this ministry. If you feel led to help, check out their list of needs at this web link:http://www.ruthharbor.org/rhwishlist.htm
First Impressions
By Gary L. Jaehnel, Facilities Manger
When you visit someone’shouse for the first time, do youlook around as you walk in theirdoor? Is your impression of them somewhat based on whereand how they live? The samecan be said of people walkingin our front doors here at churchfor the first time.Starting later this month, weare going to make some changesto the foyer with the objective of making guests feel welcome andcomfortable as they arrive andleave through our front doors. At the same time, we are goingto create some small gatheringareas where people can meet andtalk before and after the services. Here is some of what you’llbegin to see happen:Existing chairs and tableswill be arranged in thenorth “V” of the foyer to create a designated Guests’ Recep-tion area between the glass entrances to our facility. The Mission displays and tables are going to be replacedwith a new, updated wall display system.Existing chairs and tables will be arranged to create smallmeeting areas on the east and west sides of our foyer. The Information and Resource areas will be painted a dif-ferent color and include new signage to immediately attractguests’ attention as they enter.A committee of visionaries, designers and technical peoplehas been formed to make this dream a reality. We’ll start withthese simple improvements for a short trial period then regroupto determine what other changes are economically possible toimprove the overall image and feel of the foyer. Ideas are alreadybeing considered, including paint, rugs, banners, signs, newfurniture, etc. These enhancements are consistent with the theme of “NewBeginnings” at First Federated as we strive to engage thecommunity around us. We hope you’ll be excited about theseupcoming changes.
