: Cuban outfield prospect Dariel Alvarez was promotedto Frederick Thursday and went 5-for-10 with an RBI in his first two CarolinaLeague games. Alvarez, 24, was signed by Baltimore in July and went 4-for-9 withtwo doubles, a triple, a homer and three RBIs in three games in the GCL before being promoted. He defected from Cuba to Mexico before the 2012 season, where he played in the Veracruz league and hit .317 for Tuxpan. In five seasons with the
Cuban League’s Camaguey, Alvarez hit .297 with 37 home runs and 180 RBIs.
