ellowAmericans,Wherearewenowasanation,asapatrioticcountry?Its2009andwearen’twherewearesupposedtobecomparedtoothercountrieslikeRussia,ChinaandJapan.Weasapeoplearetiredofit.Oureducationsystemisshotandnotwhatitshouldbe.Thestudentswanttolearnbutit’shardforthemtobecausewedidn’thaveaccesstoeducationuntilnottoolongago.TheonestoblamearetheFLSA(FairLaborStandardsAct)andtheirrulesregardingtheworkforce,whichlimitedourfreedom.Theopportunitytochangethispresenteditselfin1938whentheactwasbroughtup,theyhadthechancetoendchildlaborinAmerica,butdidn’tbecausetheyvaluedthewrongthingsatthetime,
cheaplabor 
.Childrenthen,whicharenowouroldergenerationworkedinsteadofgettinganeducationandbecomingsuccessful.Theyworkedforlittlepay,infactoriescreatingclothing,andproducts,andtheyworkedincoalminingareasaswell,tediousjobs.Wewererestrictedfromourfreedomtoaneducation,inventiveness,andaccesstowealth.PublicEducationandthecountry’sschooldistrictsisn’tbeingfundedlikeitneedstobebutit’sowedtoAmericans.Theeducationsystemistheproblemanditneedstochangesoon.Thenumberofstudentsenrolledintoprimary,secondary,andpostprimaryeducationis80millionandincreasingasthepopulationcontinuestogrow.TheU.Scantaffordthis,theycantaffordtofundtheessentialmaterials,supplies,andextracurricularactivitiesthatschoolswouldneedinordertoseesomesuccesswithinthestudents,andtheteachers,andforthemtohavebrighterfutures.Forthisreason,thereare50childreninoneclassroomfromgrades1‐12,whichlimitsindividualopportunity.Subjectsbeingtaughttogrades13aretopicslikehowtosoundoutwords,spellingandbasicarithmeticlikeadditionsubtractionandbasicscience.Grades4‐6arelearningmulitplication,readingcomprehensionandenvironmentalscience,7‐9arelearningdivision,amoreadvancedformofreadingcomprehension,andphysicalscience.Grades10‐12arelearningBiology,advancedenglishandalgebra.Novelsaredistributedthroughouttheeducationsystembuttheyhavetobereadasaclassbecausetherearen’tenoughbooksfortheamountofstudentsineachenglishclass.Thereissomuchmoretolearnandwearesofarbehindcomparedtomoreadvancedcountries.Throughsomeresearchdonebytheorganization,itwasdiscoveredthatbythe12

grade,theaveragestudentinmostcountrieswouldbelearningcalculusoratleastprecalculus.Whyshouldwebedeprivedofhigherlearningandlackofresources?WhyareAmericansstillpayingthepriceforsomethingthathappenedbeforetheirtime?

Insteadofjusttalkingaboutthebadandnottryingtoimproveit,Iwillsuggestasolutiontothiseducationalrutthatwearein.Thatis,todevelopseveralafterschoolprogramswithpeoplearoundthecountrythatareapartofthe
EARFAA
organization,becausetherearethousands.Theprogramswillrangefromthingsliketakingextracoursesforcreditstotalentopportunitiesandwhatchildrenfindofinteresttoday.Thesevolunteersoftheorganization,includingmyselfwillbethoughtfulandwon’tmindworkingextrahourstobetterourcountry’seducation,literacyrate,andadvancement.Thiswillbedoneforlittlepaybecauseextracan’tbeaffordedduringthistimeofeconomicdistress(lackofmoney).Anyonecanjoinandeveryoneiswelcome.Beapart,helpoutandmakeachange.Itstartswithyou,itstartswithmeanditendswithabrightertomorrow.

TherewasateenagestudentthatsaidanignorantstatementduringhismeetingwiththepresidentoftheUnitedStates.Weareveryupsetandashamedofthestatementthatwasreleasedtoday,whichwassaidbythechild.HeaskedthePresidentaquestion,whichwas“WhatdoyouthinkabouttheeducationofAmericaandit’srelationshiptothesuccessoftheeconomy?”ThePresidentrepliedwith,“Ithinkthattheeducationalsystemisverylowandneedstobeimprovedgreatlybutthisisn’tfromthisgeneration,it’sfrompreviouseventsaswell,onesthattookplaceandchangesthattooktoolongtooccur.PartlybecausetheupdatedversionoftheFLSAaftermanyyearsfinallydecidedthatchildrenaspeople,deservedopportunityandwerefinallyabletobeincludedinaeducation.”Thestudentrepliedwith,“Noit’sbecauseyourancestorsspecificallyheldusdownanddidn’tcomeupwithasolutiontoourproblemsooner.”Hestartedtoyellandgotupsetandwasescortedout.
