Larry EchoHawk.

Since the colonization of America, it seemed as if the country were uninhabitable. TheJamestown Colony, being ridden by disease, suicide, disappearance and starvation had setup the “discovery of the New World” looking very bleak. In 1692, a letter was discovered, written in 1680, from the settlers of the Jamestown Colony. It had stated that they had beenravaged by illness, an illness unknown to the people of the Old World. “We had wanted tobadly to set up this shining beacon of a new world. We have failed all that had faith in us.”This display of failure and fear was one that sent people into a spiraling depression. For thenext settlers departing for the New World, hope was not abundant. In 1692, the Maryland Colony had arrived. For their welcome, they were greeted by an abandoned campand no one to be found. The Jamestown Colony hadcompletely disappeared. This left a panicked andsinking feeling for the Maryland Colony settlers. Inthe late 1700’s, diary entries were found from theMaryland colonists. In a log discovered to be writtenin January of 1693 by John Milkirk, 59 days after their arrival. The entry focuses on the new foundrelationships they have made with the NativeAmericans, as well as their feelings and fears of thelack of sign from any members of the Jamestown
