For he who hath an ear....
Look around. During the day, look around at the trees, and the flowers, and the birds, and theother animals; look at the sun in the blue sky as it gives its light to us. At night, look at the moon, andall the stars in the darkness that is the vast expanse of space. Everything you see is here for ouramazement,to look at in aweand wonder just who could be responsible for it all.For millennia, humans have looked up at the sky and seen a creative force looking back –aforce that, so long ago, created the universe and everything in it, and created the earth and everything on it.What apowerful force this must be.
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth
(Genesis 1:1, KJV).This is a firm opening statement, and is one that forms the basis for an entire section of theChristian dogma known as Creationism. Belief in Creationism is, first and foremost, a belief in theall-powerful nature of God. However, Creationism faces a significant threat from modern science, inthe form of two revolutionary hypotheses: the Big Bang Theoryand the Theory of Evolution.Together, these have worked to undermine the reverence of our Almighty Creator, all but destroyingthe very foundation of Christian doctrine. But, now, it is time for sound Biblical principles to retakethe ground they’ve lost to invasive theories and arrogant sciences. The entire first chapter of Genesis details the Creation account:
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, andvoid; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of thewaters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it wasgood: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day, and the darknesshe called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the watersfrom the waters. AndGod made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under thefirmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so. And God called thefirmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.

And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let thedry land appear: and it was so. And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of thewaters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good. And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, uponthe earth: and it was so. And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And the evening and the morning were the third day.And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night;and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: And let them be for lights in thefirmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so. And God made two great lights;the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. AndGod set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, And to rule over the dayand over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good. Andthe evening and the morning were the fourth day.And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowlthat may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. And God created great whales, andevery living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, andevery winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And God blessed them, saying, Befruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth. And theevening and the morning were the fifth day.And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creepingthing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so. And God made the beast of the earth afterhis kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: andGod saw that it was good. And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and letthem have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, andover all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created manin his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And Godblessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, andsubdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over everyliving thing that moveth upon the earth. And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearingseed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yieldingseed; to you it shall be for meat. And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and toevery thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb formeat: and it was so. And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. Andthe evening and the morning were the sixth day
(Genesis 1, KJV).Big Bang physics and Evolutionary biology deny this account, instead opting for miracles andimpossibly slim chances.Wherescienceoffers only flawed logic and questionableproofs, theinspired Word of Godsteps up to offertruth and reason. At least, this is what proponents of Literal Interpretation, Young Earth Creationism, andIntelligent Design (call them what you will, they’re all just different sheep suitsworn by the samewolf) claim. Now, let’s see what the facts say....

Abiogenesis is the act of producing organismsfrom inorganic matter. Throughout the historyofbiology –in fact, from the time of Aristotle it has been assumed that life is capable of spontaneous

generation. This was “evidenced” especially by the appearance of maggots in food without therebeing any apparent outside source. For some time, thebeliefthat inanimate objects couldspontaneously produce lifewas prevalent. Then, in 1668, biologist Francesco Rediperformed anexperiment in which he showed that, in cases where meat was completely isolated from the externalenvironment(and, therefore, from flies that could lay eggs in the meat, which would then mature tobecome the maggots observedin other conditions), no maggots appeared. This was the first step indisproving the theory of spontaneous generation.Todayexists what is known as the Law of Biogenesis: that life is borne of life, and no inorganicmatter can lead to the creation of life. However, one extensionof spontaneous generationstill exists,in the form of modern abiogenesis. This theory is requiredin order to explain the initial origin of life, and, at least at first, appears to be a contradiction. Now, we could leave it here, like believers in thedivine Creation of life often do before theythenmake the claim that the very laws of science provethat there must be a God who caused the first life on Earth to form. Or we can go deeper.Let’s try that last one.How did biologists make the leap from “no maggots in the bread” to “no life from inanimateobjects, ever”? Simple. They didn’t. The Law of Biogenesis stated above is only part of the story; it is,in actuality, just a statement of observed phenomenon under current conditions. Do we see livingthings form from non-living things today? No, of course we don’t. But this “law” in no way governsthe extraordinary conditions present during the very earliest stages of the formation of our planet.

This is where abiogenesis comes in.Where did the first life on Earth come from? We know how life is formed now, but how did it allstart, back before there were elephants to produce more elephants, and beavers to produce morebeavers, and dogs to produce more dogs? What was the
first cause
?This is, admittedly, a difficultquestion to answer, however that is not because there is no answer. Rather, it is due to the limit ofour understanding of early biochemistry. The process is clear: simple molecules to complexmolecules to simple life to complex life. The mechanism for this process is what is difficult todetermine. It should also be noted that, strictly speaking, even considering the Law of Biogenesis asstated above, life in the beginning did not arise from non-living things. Abiogenesis, instead, involveswhat may be considered more as an intermediary –that is, complex molecules that are not quitealive, yet exhibit qualities of life, such as performing specialized functions. In this way, life did notcome from inorganic matter, rather it arose more directly from matter sitting on the line betweeninanimate molecule and animate organism. The occurrence of abiogenesis once over the history of the earth begs the question, why doesn’t itstill occur? Why, today, are we not being bombarded with life newly-formed from inorganicmaterials? This can be answered simply: conditions suitable for abiogenesis to occur naturally maynot exist anymore, and, even if they did, the chances of such an event being observed are remarkablyremote (approximately 1 in a trillion, even under the most exemplary conditions).

At best, Creationism and Evolution areon equal ground. For now.

Where are the transitional fossils (the so-called “missing links”)?How were the bones of deadanimals buried before they weredisplacedor destroyedby any of a number of natural processes? How can we trust the exceptionally old agesfor fossils, not to mention rocks, given by “scientific”dating methods? These are three key issues habitually raised by advocates of Creationism. On the surface, theyappear to be rational, commonsense questions. Let’s see about that.
