Pepco to Improve Reliability in Bloomingdale with Infrastructure Upgrade Project


Project Overview We are always working to provide safe, reliable electric service to our customers, and to support the needs of the growing Bloomingdale community. As part of this commitment, we are performing equipment and cable inspections, along with the necessary upgrades needed to accommodate recent service issues and long-term community growth. These enhancements will improve reliablity for customers in the Bloomingdale area. Project Work Plan Description Pepco has installed new higher capacity transformers and plans to continue upgrades to underground cables and other existing infrastructure. Crews have used new smart meter technology to identify the equipment upgrades needed to better provide safe and reliable electric service. In order to meet future energy needs, Pepco will convert a 4kV feeder to a 13kV feeder and will continue to review and implement solutions on all feeders in the Bloomingdale area.

Work has already been underway with the following projects:

Currently working on a feeder improvement project to replace sections of the overhead lines system. o Installing 10,000 feet of new wire to increase service reliability. Currently working to convert feeder 147 to a higher primary voltage due to load growth. Working with DC Water, Pepco advanced a project from 2015 to later this year to accommodate the electric service for the drainage project tunnel machinery. Other completed underground upgrades in 2013 include: o Replaced three way switch at 11th and 0 Streets, NW in July. o Replaced connections on a three way switch at 6th and 0 Streets, NW in July. Crews replacing a o Replaced transformer and added operating flexibility by transformer installing sw itches and primary cables at Rhode Island Rick Giammaria, Pepco Avenue and 1st Street, NW in July. Holdings, Inc. o Added capacity by introducing two new mainline feeders to the neighborhood in May. The new feeders include greater operating flexibility such as switches and additional primary cable that will result in faster restoration times.
