Founded in 1908, the National Governors Association (NGA) is the instrument through which the nation’s Governors collectivelyinfluence the development and implementation of national policy and apply creative leadership to state issues. The association’s membersare the Governors of the fifty states, the Commonwealths of the Northern Mariana Islands and Puerto Rico, and the territories of American Samoa, Guam, and the Virgin Islands.NGA has four standing committees on major issues—Economic Development andCommerce; Education, Early Childhood, and Workforce; Health and Human Services; and Natural Resources. The association serves as avehicle for sharing knowledge of innovative programs among the states and provides technical assistance and consultant services toGovernors on a wide range of management and policy issues.

Founded in 1945, NASBO is the instrument through which the states collectively advance stage budget practices. The major functions of the organization consist of research, policy development, education, training, and technical assistance. These are achieved primarilythought NASBO’s publications, membership meetings, and training sessions. Association membership is composed of the heads of statefinance departments, the states’ chief budget officers, and their deputies. All other state budget office staff are associate members.Association membership is organizing into four standing committees-Health, Human Services, and Justice; Financial Management,Systems, and Data Reporting; Tax, Commerce, Physical Resources, and Transportation; and Training, Education, and Human ResourcesManagement. NASBO is an independent professional and education association and is also an affiliate of the National GovernorsAssociation.
