MCKENZIEBACKEXTENSIONPROTOCOL(RobinMcKenzie.TreatYourOwnBack) 1)Pronelying:Patientisinapronepositionwitharmsalongtheirsidesandheadturned tooneside.Thispositionismaintainedfor5minutes. 2)Pronelyingonelbows:Patientisinapronepositionwithweightontheirelbowsand forearmsandtheirhipscontactingthefloororthemat.Thebackisrelaxedtoallow contactwiththefloororthemat.Thispositionismaintainedfor5minutes.Ifthereistoo muchpain,thenthispositionisstoppedandthepatientretreatstoexercisenumberone. 3)Pronepressups:Patientisinapronepositionwithweightontheirpalmswhichare closetotheshoulders.Thepatientslowlypushestheshouldersup,keepingthehipsonthe surfaceandthebackandabdomenrelaxed.Themaximalheightismaintainedfor5 secondsandrepeatedupto10timesperday. 4)Progressiveextensionwithpillows:Thepatientisproneandapillowisplacedunder thechestforabout3minutes.Asecondpillowisplacedafter3minutes.Ifthereisno significantpain,thenathirdpillowisaddedafter3minutes,andthispositionisheldfor another3minutes.
