The superior alternativefor viral vaccine production
•
Do you want to eliminatemicrocarriers/detachment factorsin your process?
•
Do you need consistent, high viral titers?
•
Do you need a robustscaleable process?
Background
Human and veterinary vaccines havetypically been manufactured usingchicken eggs and primary ChickenEmbryo Fibroblasts (CEFs) (Table 1).These cell substrates pose a number of
limitationsincludingriskofinsufcient
supply, time-consuming processeswith inconsistent yields, high costs of manufacture, the potential for allergicresponses to egg-components andconcerns associated with using bovinesera in CEF cultures.
Fully documented stableEB66 cell line grown inserum-free media
A fully documented stable duck cellline termed EB66 cell line derivedfrom embryonic stem cells has beenestablished by and is owned byVivalis (www.vivalis.com) as a superioralternative for the cost-effectivemanufacturing of vaccines currentlyproduced in CEFs or eggs. EB66 cellsmaintain genetic stability, are immortaland grow in serum-free media. An added advantage is high densitygrowth as suspension cells without theneed for microcarriers. Alleviate yourconcerns and ease your paperworkduring future Chemistry Manufacturing

Scaleable, optimized media
To support the EB66 cell line, SAFCBiosciences
®
has developed EX-CELLEBx media and supplements optimizedfor use with suspension EB66 cellsto ensure maximum growth and hightiter viral vaccine production. High cellviability and high cell density growthin suspension provides the optimalenvironment for high titer viralvaccine production.

Consistent high viral titers
Typical titer values range from8 – 9 log TCID
50
/mL, when using EB66cells grown in EX-CELL EBx medium
andinfectedwithmodiedvaccinia
virus Ankara (MVA) in stirred tankbioreactors. Accelerate your timelines by ensuringsuccessful runs time after time.
Economics
Since you will see consistent resultsand higher titers when using EX-CELLEBx media and supplements, you willneed less medium, less optimizationtime and fewer processing componentsfor your process, accelerating yourspeed to market.
No microcarriers necessary
No microcarriers are required, savingtime and money as no detachmentfactors/steps are required to expandyour cultures and simplify andstreamline your process.
